Bulfinch's Mythology (Leather-bound Classics)

Happy to have this book in my collection

To get started with mythology, I bought this one and Hamilton's book. Reading this one is akin to reading a novel, good storytelling, especially considering when it was written. Reading Hamilton felt like I was reading a research paper. I keep both handy for reference when reading classics but Bullfinch is now my go-to book. It is easier to follow and easier to find things. If you are going to buy just one book on mythology, this would be the one I would recommend. If you need more, I would recommend Hamilton and Murray

A truly beautiful version of the definitive collection of classical mythology.Vast and poetic in it's story-telling,it is the book I always return to when reading these eternal tales.Nearly any myth from ancient Greece can be found here as well as Arthurian legend,some Teutonic myth,and much more.This classy version is even more splendid as it is leather bound,with golden edged pages and tassel.It is thick,but not a very large book,making it easy to to hold and read.Any self respecting lover of mythology should have this scholarly edition in their library.

A book where the quality of the leather binding shows AND the price was very reasonable - under $30 !!!The paper is high quality as well and has a sewn in ribbon to use as a book mark. Delivery was quite fast and was packed very well. I've read half of the book which has close to 700 pages !! Well written, and a pleasure to read and learn from. I will certainly be ordering more leather bound books in the very near. Can't miss !!!!

This book is full of a lot of information about Mythology but it doesn't have a lot in the way of stories to forewarn those looking for that. This has a lot of basic introductory information into mythology but is still a great reference guide to have. I'm very happy I decided to add it to my library along with all my other history and mythology books. It's well worth the price and is a beautiful book.

Bulfinch's Mythology is one of the best known collections of Greek mythology available. So much so that people often forget that the Age of Chivalry and Charlemagne are also included.Bulfinch is not perfect in his adaptation of these myths as there are some liberties taken to cater to the sensibilities of the time he compiled this collection and many with argue that Edith Hamilton's later compilation is much improved in a number of ways.Personally, I did find some of Bulfinch's entries a little less interesting, but overall you will still get a good dive into the classics of mythology as well as a lighter exploration of later legends. And if you're not actually looking to delve into the texts, but need a beautiful leather bound book to enhance the decor in your study, office, or home library, this will definitely take care of that as well.

So many books are being taken out of print by a delusional ideology that believes books are inherently biased, racist or just evil. It's bad enough our children are being robbed of a decent education, let alone taking away a certain level of cultural growth by sitting down with a classic read. I'm buying books just like this one and many others in hopes of preserving a little piece of literary history and passing them down to my children with the hope they pass them on to their own.Semper Fi!C.S. None of the adjectives offered apply. This is a compendium of mythology. Indeed it is a rather complete one. To get all the stories within two covers, the print had to be small. (Something has to give, so it was print-size.)The book was written in an earlier day by a very educated man (Bullfinch himself). So his somewhat formal vocabulary challenges my eight year-old, mythology-besotted grandson. After a year or less of looking up the unfamiliar words, they will grow more familiar and the rest should be smooth sailing.The book is beautifully bound. Its effect is downright reverential.

Great book, it's awesome for those who want to lear something about the stories of old. And the quality of the book itself is amazing.

Excellent book, but do keep in mind this will not be easy read, as the book is more in the line of textbook, not in a storybook way or lucid manner. So might feel bored at first, but if you are a mythology buff, this is absolute must have. Give it time and it will grow on you
