Interesting.
This is the second Maisie Dobbs book I've read. In this one, Maisie seems more human than in the first one. She seems to be more impatient and she second guesses herself sometimes. Maisie seemed to be almost perfect in the first book; this time around, she falters a bit sometimes. She does have a lot going on. She's hired by a grocery tycoon to find his 30-something daughter, Charlotte, who has run off. Women Charlotte knew as a young girl in "finishing" school are being murdered and she knows she's somewhere in the lineup, maybe even next. Maisie and Billy are hard at work running down clues. Both are hindered in their search to solve the case by personal problems that could stop them altogether. In the end, we see that a war doesn't end just because peace is declared. In this "war to end all war" so many died leaving so many to grieve for them, and many times people do stupid things, not understanding how their actions will haunt them later. I've already downloaded the next two books in this series, so I will definitely keep reading. This is a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking series; I'm glad I stumbled on it when I wasn't even looking for it.

great series!
I really liked this book and the plot! It is slower moving, but I don't mind and I love hearing the details about the fashion of this time period. It did throw some twists and turns and I really liked it. I love the characters, the time period and the place. I will def be reading this entire series if it keeps up like this! Great writing, a nice mystery, take-me-away book. Perfect for a vacay or if you are just stressed (like I am right now, lol) a great way to de stress! For spoilers, please scroll:I'm totally liking the Dr. Dene. I think he and Maisie will have a romance in future books. There is still the possibility between Maisie and Detective Inspector Stratton, and this book did give more background on his character, interesting he's a widower with a young child he's raising... I have to say, I'm pulling for Dr. Dene, I liked the chemistry between him and Maisie! :)

Great read
Great characters introduced and developed. Looking forward to book #3. I'm sure my wife will enjoy Birds of a Feather and probably recommend one of the books to her book club

I love Maisie!
A friend recommended this series to me. I'm hooked! If you're interested in the early1900s please read this series! There is mystery, and women's lack of power promently portrayed, including the power of the upper class and the lower.

Moving On
It takes a long time, almost the whole book, but Maisie’s getting there. Pretty good mystery, I figured out the killer halfway through, though had some details wrong. An enjoyable read, despite dragging in a few places. The beginning of the Great Depression ambiance is good and look forward to moving through the 30’s and the even worse war to come, after the war to end all wars.

Well written charming read
The writing is so skillful that you feel you are actually in the location during the time period. Not a page turner but so well written you don't want to miss any of the words. All in all, a very pleasant, enjoyable read. I have ordered the next book in the series.

Definitely better than the first one but still trying to connect with the main character
3.5 starsSo I am not entirely ready to give up on this series yet. While I am struggling to make a connection to Maisie, I like her enough to keep reading and am curious to see how she pulls herself up from the ashes. I can’t say that I love her as much as other female detectives that I’ve read but I am trying to give her a shot.I liked this book a little better than the first one. It was a little cliche at times and not really heavy on the mystery, but it was intriguing enough for me to keep reading. I liked the Great War connection and I felt that that piece was what really kept me reading.I also liked the potential for a romance in her future. In the first book, her first love is damaged beyond repair and Maisie is kind of stuck in limbo, unwilling to move on with her life. In this book it seemed like she was finally willing to consider other potential suitors and I am looking forward to seeing how that plays out in future books.Part of me felt frustrated by Maisie’s techniques in this book that I don’t remember from the previous book. For example, Maisie would interview someone or would discover a clue and then not reveal to the reader some of the info that was given or what the clue was. That was frustrating, I felt like I was deliberately being kept in the dark so that I wouldn’t figure out the mystery. In essence I felt like I was not working ‘with’ Maisie on the mystery or being able to try and put things together but rather being told about the mystery. This book was more about the mystery than in the previous book so I did like that we are kind of moving into the whole mystery part of the story more rather than focusing on Maisie’s personal life.I would be willing to give this series another book or two before I decide if I will keep reading. It wasn’t ‘bad’, it was definitely an improvement over the first book but still needs a little ‘something’…..hopefully the potential romance will add that little something that I am looking for to hook me in this series!

Birds Of A Feather Flock Together At Thriftbooks
First off, I LOVE THE MAISIE DOBBS SERIES, 18 NOVELS IN ALL, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!The other thing I urge is to support the sustainable since, our planet will thank you.I've come to trust Thrift Books because they never disappoint. Maisie came, as usual, on the early side in pristine condition. Actually, it looks like a brand new copy. It came safely wrapped in durable packaging, once again inspiring me to sing their praises. another thought provoking Maisie Dobbs
This is my second reading of this book having just read the last Maisie Dobbs I thought I would start reading-reading. These are excellent books with the angle of psychology adding to the interest rather than just a detective story

Birds of a feather. (Maisie Dobbs)
J'aime beaucoup cette série - à lire et relire ! Historiquement c'est parfait et on se retrouve bien dans l'époque.I have really enjoyed this collection - Jacqueline Winspear knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seat and has seriously researched her historical background.

This series of books warrants re-reading.
I spend a great deal of time reading, and mostly mysteries which are easy reading. This series by Jaqueline Winspear takes a lot more thought and gives great insight into the lives and minds of the characters. I have read most of the Maisie Dobbs series but return to them when I want a serious read. They are well worth it.
