Part of a series
The second part in the End of Forever saga and follows on from The Tiger Catcher. I was captivated again following Julian on his time-travelling adventure in search of his love, Josephine. As a history lover I really enjoyed the chapters that sent Julian back into the past and noticing the changes in London from his previous visit. Unfortunately Julian finds and loses his love on several occasions but his determination is astonishing and never ending. His character seems unbelievable in his quest but his presence is definitely believable. The search he endures is painful and tiring and throughout there is a desire for him to get his girl.A wonderfully exciting read and I am looking forward to finding out if he succeeds in the conclusion book, Inexpressible Island. A great series to read.

Favourite read
To say this new trilogy is my most anticipated reads of 2019 is an utter understatement. I LOVED book 1 The Tiger Catcher and could NOT wait to read A Beggar’s Kingdom. Now, after finishing it, I am in awe of what Paullina has written. What. A. Story!I cannot tell you a lot of the details in book2 as everything happens in A Beggar’s Kingdom has shocked and surprised me so unexpectedly. It is such original and unique story! Paullina’s writing as always is hauntingly beautiful and oh so very romantic. Some parts read like poetry that I want to memorise them forever. The plot twists and the character development in this book are what make this book for me.There are so much I want to say about this book and the characters but I don’t want to spoil anything for you. All you need to know is this story is so mysterious, so adventurous, so exhilarating, so romantic and yet it is so complex, so deceptive, so tragic and so emotional. This book and series so far is one of my very very favourite reads this year; and can I just say one of my very favourite books ever!If you are a romantic at heart or just want to read an amazing book, then you need to pick this series up! Book3, the last book in this series Inexpressible Island is out this December. I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS FINAL BOOK!

Re-read the Bronze Horseman series instead
I'm a huge fan of Paullina Simons.... with the exception of this series. I made it through the first book, but have given up on this one, and that's not something I ever expected to do with a book by this author.Again, the hero conveniently finds an ideally situated job the moment he arrives in another time. Again, there are good characters that can do no wrong, and bad characters that can do no good. (The hero has sex with two women at the same time, in all different positions, having never met them before, and it's erotic and passionate; a bad character wants to watch two people have sex and he's a sick pervert.)Then I gave up reading. But really the writing is poor, the mishmash of supernatural rules (if they can be called rules) undefined and unconvincing. Re-read the Bronze Horseman series instead.
