Lost Ground

I bought this on vinyl because I wanted to have some of my most cherished albums on display. If you're buying this for similar reasons, you should be reminded that it's a 7" record. I glossed over that detail when I made this purchase, and was taken by surprise when I opened my package to find this cute little guy. Still a flawless album, and it's my fault for not paying close enough attention to what I was buying.

This is a great record. Seriously if you have never heard it do yourself a huge favor and give it a listen. One of my favorite records in my collection!

i think i like this more than any other defeater i've heard. very emotional. very fitting to the theme of the album. a passionate expression of what life during wwii would be like

Efficient and CD was in fine shape

This album gives more mercy than "travels" but the balls to the wall hardcore element remains. Vocals passionately on the verge of tears with subject matter pertaining to a war vet coming home experiencing racism and eventually winding up on the streets of New York as a homeless performer circa world war 2. "Travels" deals with household abuse of a angry drunk father also from a previous time, both telling a story through the whole album. I played this after The Carrier's 7 inch "no love can save me" and felt they flowed perfectly together. Production is crystal clear and I got a special double 7 inch package on white vinyl from RevHq.com. I would have to say this is my personal favorite of the three with "Travels" being second. Jay Maas is doing some great things here in the studio. This is Massachusetts hardcore by the way and probally as intense as it gets with Soul Control, I Rise, and of course The Carrier. Seems very heartfelt and not put on. Excellent job .

Well, first of all let me say that I am not a die hard fan of hardcore music, I was introduced to this album by a friend and it took me a few times through to get really tuned in to the musicality of the album because the aggressiveness of the vocalist sometimes tends to overshadow what the instruments are doing if you are not accustomed to hardcore music.That being said, this album explores in depth serious social issues and touches on a variety of themes which many in this world pass through during their lives. Sacrifice, loss, racism, and the unfairness of life and how society is set up run through the album, and once you read the lyrics and take a minute to think about them, you understand the artists passion for the message. It took a thorough reading of the words, and some time to really ponder them to "get" why Derek, the vocalist, was straining to be heard. Once the message was clear this album went into serious rotation in my car and on my IPOD. A very mature production, from a genre not putting out very much that is on this level, in my opinion.

Just Defeater, nothing more, nothing less. It's an amazing record. Who loves melodic hardcore, will like it a lot for sure.

Defeater ist eine großartige Hardcore Band. Ihre melancholischen Texte und die emotionsgeladene Musik sind nicht unbedingt etwas zum fröhlichen Fahrstuhlfahren, aber für tiefgreifendere Momente bestens geeignet.Besonders "The Red, White and Blues" ist der Hammer-Song schlechthin, mit diesem Lied haben mich Defeater für immer gefangen nehmen können! :)

das ist nun mein drittes Album von Defeater und es ist einfach genau so wie ich es erwartet habe: genial.Die Booklets und Cover fallen jedoch bei dem Album "normaler" aus als bei dem Rest. Was natürlich keine Kritik darstellt. Es sei denn man holt sich die Alben aufgrund der tollen Verpackung...Das Album ist gelungen. Kooofen.
