Works for replacing OLD MOEN cartridges!
This worked perfectly to replace my old Moen cartridge faucet. I had tried 4 replacements from lowes only for them to not work at all because it wouldnt push the cartridge closed enough to shut the water off. This one has held up nicely and working and actually shutting off the water off and it is sturdy. Make sure you get this to accommodate this trim kit.Moen 145058 Shower Adapter Kit Replacement Part Converts Standard Valve To Moentrol Valve

Solid trim for older Moentrol valve set-ups
A lot has already been said on the aesthetics, functionality, ease of install, etc. I'm pretty much going to reiterate all of it in one review. If you're purchasing this specific Moentrol trim, you're doing it because you're looking to replace an older model that's currently in your tub/shower. Typically it's those old fashioned crystal clear, tear drop shaped knobs that have the plain, no frills chrome face plate. As explained by others, if this is what you are looking to replace, your face plate will have two screw holes at the bottom, at 5 and 7 o'clock. Moen's newer plates have diagonal holes. Therefore an adapter is necessary. You can buy one here on Amazon, and Moen makes it. It's the Moen 145058 adapter, and it's simply a brass plate that screws onto your valve. It will have four holes that are lined up in a square so that your new face plate with diagonal holes will be able to be installed properly. BUY THE GENUINE MOEN ADAPTER! Can not stress that enough. There are others manufactured by other companies. Get the Moen. I know quite a few reviewers of these adapters have complained about screw holes not lining up properly. I just did this. Just an hour ago. The screw holes for the GENUINE MOEN ADAPTER line up perfectly. Oddly enough the screw holes are a tad tight. The machined screws that come with this trim set-up need some extra torque when screwing it in (at last for me they did). And there was a bit of concern for a while. but I eventually got the screws in, and the face plate fit perfectly. ZERO complaints. Now if you're replacing the old fashioned trim, chances are you have no idea how long that old trim has been on your shower wall. I would say replacing the cartridge inside of the valve is a good idea. That might be tricky since it may be old, and can sometimes get stuck inside the valve. You will need the Moen 1225 cartridge (again buy the GENUINE Moen cartridge), and a cartridge removal tool. Moen provides a cruddy little plastic piece that can fit inside of the cartridge. It aint worth it. You can pick up a standard removal tool for these cartridges for under $20. Do it.As far as the trim itself, once you got the new cartridge installed in the valve, and the adapter screwed onto the valve, it's a piece of cake. There are videos on installation. In fact there is a video of a plumber installing this EXACT trim set-up. Just look up the model name and you will find it. It's very straight forward installation. What people need to keep in mind id that you are essentially retrofitting your trim. Yes this is a Moentrol trim set up that is designed to fit onto the existing valve in your wall. BUT! It's going to resemble to old trim in terms of how it sits on your wall. I say this because there are A LOT of complaints about how far out the handle is from the wall. There is nothing you can do about that. You have to understand this going in. I honestly don't think it's a big deal at all. I think my new trim looks terrific, and 100x better than the old. Would I like the handle to be a bit further in? Yeah. Does it infuriate me? No. If you go into this understanding that this new handle will indeed stick out about as far as the old (possibly a little closer in the way mine does), then you're ahead of the game. Lower your expectations. This is a solid piece of hardware. Seems well built. With the right tools, the right knowledge, and a good attitude, you can install this yourself. The cartridge might give you a bit of a headache. But I think most people will be able to handle this.

Finally, I can control both the volume and the temperature!
Wonderful. Easy to use after our contractor installed it. Love being able to run higher volumes at lower temperatures and vice versa.

Only option but it works
There were only like 3 options to replace the moentrol. Had to replace the cheap plastic ones that come with your bottom of the line showers. Next time, I'll just replace the valve. This works just fine. Not hard to install, follow the directions, and it works just fine. Replaced 2 of these. Both work as intended.Don't forget to buy that little brass adapter ring.
