Q: Does plugging in the cooler, drain the battery?

To be honest, I wouldn't bother buying this, I mean when it's working it does get super cold and if you was to put a thermal pad between the cooler and phone it definitely will cool the phone.... However I had to return mine as after just a few uses, it just completely died, no USB power source would work, SO... for the short time I had it working it was good, but if I were you, save your money.

Q: can i turn off the coloured lights? I need it to be dark

No you cannot turn off the lights, but the unit is very quiet and very effective at cooling
