An exceptional book offering unusual insight and practicality
Every coach who is looking for more depth in the delivery of their coaching needs to read this exceptional book, which offers great value and richness. Not only beautifully written and very accessible, it is authored by two people who have a profound understanding of what it means to be mindful, what it means to coach and what it means to bring authentic and elegant mindfulness to coaching. Implicit in that is a profound understanding of what it also means for the coach to connect with the client in a way which will release more of their potential and even enable transformation. Key here are the practical approaches for doing so which the book offers. It offers fresh thinking from new perspectives, equipping the reader to appreciate what can be achieved by facilitating the coaching client to learn better how to ‘be’, and to bring their ‘being’ to the achievement of meaningful outcomes. As part of the coach’s journey towards this point, the book offers the coach themselves significant personal development. It has enabled me as a coach to gain broader perspective, to achieve a deeper experience of coaching, to shape sharper focus, to become more creative, and to enhance my compassion and sense of balance. Having coached for 16 years, with a focus on the contribution that ‘being’ makes to ‘doing’, my practice is enhanced by the learning this book offers – and my clients have benefited. It is unusual for a book on coaching practice to take the experiential line that this book takes, and to have the profound impact that this book has.Particularly interesting are the sections on the 8-week course, further development beyond the 8-week course, and the connections between mindfulness and a range of coaching approaches. This open and wide-ranging embrace of a variety of coaching practices and perspectives contributes to the refreshing blend of humility, insight and impressive substance of the two authors, and the impact of their writing.
