Whirlpool 8562043 Silverware Basket

When using the compatibility tool Amazon provides for this item it shows that this basket may not be compatible with our mode of KitchenAid dishwasher (KUDS30IVBL0). Rest assured that this basket is the same basket as the KitchenAid 8531233 and is the correct replacement. This basket even has "KitchenAid" stamped on the handle just like our old one (which began to fall apart at the bottom just like so many others who have had the same problem). Clearly these dishwashers have a design flaw where the heating element is too close to the bottom of the silverware basket and eventually degrades the plastic and little pieces break off from the bottom. The only difference between this basket and our old one (likely the reason for the 2 different part numbers) is this basket only has the center silverware divider versus our old one that had the 2 outside silverware dividers. The great thing about that is I removed the 2 outside dividers from our old basket and slipped them into the new one and now we have a silverware basket with dividers in all 3 sections of the basket!! Just know that this "Whirlpool" silverware basket is the same one that is used in KitchenAid dishwashers and is even branded as KitchenAid.

Product design Defect. Made out of the wrong material for placement in such close proximity to the heating element inside the dishwasher. Eventually I am sure that the bottom will start crumbling from this rack just like the original one did. Many review this product as good and suspect they are to blame for the breakage due to dropping silverware into the slots. This is not the reason for failure. Inspecting the unit one will find that it slowly degrades due to being heated excessively by the heating element which is only a couple inches below this tray.Designed obsolescence!I originally gave this item a single star but felt it was not fair to the seller. It is not their fault that this thing is not designed with longevity in mind.It fits my Kitchen Aid dishwasher and is pretty much the same thing as the original, less an enlarged handle that I could unscrew and put on this one and a stainless steel trim piece. Otherwise, same cheap crap as the original kitchen aid.This item gave me a business idea, "POS Remanufacturing Inc." The manufacture of solid replacement items for all the junk that is out there now so that people don't have to throw things out and can replace the one weak link with a POS Remanufactured part. This plastic POS silverware tray should be built out of stainless steel wire or perhaps a stainless steel clip on bottom could be made to prevent overheating. One time replacement and that would be all. Any company building junk would end up on the wall of shame by having solid replacement parts available online by POS Remanufacturing!I've just ordered what will be the third pump motor for this same dishwasher. It's about 9 years old. Apparently another part that is designed to fail in this machine. Poor bearings.A $1,400.00 POS through and through. I've got well over 10k in Kitchen Aid appliances installed in my kitchen.Thanks a lot Kitchen Aid!

This product changed my life. We ordered it as a replacement for our old silverware basket, which had some pretty big holes in it (I'm not sure how they got there, but I have a few hunches), so we couldn't fit much silverware in our dishwasher, and we have a pretty big family, so we're constantly running the dishwasher. Now that we have this, we can fit so many more utensils in the dishwasher. I didn't want to have to resort to plastic cutlery or hand-washing, because, where's the economic efficiency in that? Speaking of economic efficiency, the price was pretty good, too. I mean, I used some Amazon gift cards to pay for it, because of all the things Amazon offers, I couldn't think of anything else we truly needed at the time, so it worked out pretty well for us. Thanks, Amazon, and thank you, Whirlpool. Keep up the good work.

No complaints, just as good as OME

I bought a new Westinghouse dishwasher that works great but came with the smallest silverware basket ever. I only have silverware for 8, and I could only fit half of it in the basket that came it. So I searched Amazon for a larger replacement, and this is it. It is perfect! If fits perfectly from side to side in the front of the bottom basket, but can also be moved to the right side of the bottom basket to accommodate larger/more dishes, etc. It has seven large sections for silverware (4 of them 3" X 3"), and has a flip down cover over the three center sections (each one 2.5" X 3") for items that might be washed out of the basket if not held in. I can fit all my silverware in it, plus a bunch of kitchen gadgets, like whisks, spatulas, large spoons, ladles, etc. It makes me very happy with my dishwasher.

Just installed. Looks bigger but fits. Don't know about sturdiness yet. Our other basket broke on the bottom in many places and we had to patch and patch and patch. Finally gave up on the original; so I hope this one is sturdier. We like to place the steak knives down to avoid injury; but baskets don't stand up to the usage over the y years.

I have a KitchenAid KUDS3IX and the current basket has no back "shield" on it, so everytime you pull the rack in and out, any wayward knife or fork abrades the seal. Although this is not specified for my machine, the measurements were close enough to take a gamble on. It arrived today, direct drop in, no more seal damage. PS: The measurements on the product description are very accurate, so measure with confidence. This type of basket should be standard issue on any dishwasher that has the silverware basket on the side.

It fits and replaces the old one. I am going to modify the bottom of the tray with lighting egg-crate to ensure the silverware does not poke a hole in the bottom and wear it out last the last one did from the factory. This has the same material, so the assumption is it will last a couple years and the bottom will wear out. Still a weakness in the design.

The original basket that came with our dishwasher had started to break after 13 years, so we ordered this as a replacement. It's sturdy and the perfect fit - we've been using it for 7 months now with no issues. Very happy to have found the perfect replacement!

Good basket, quality i expected, obviously not a cheap third party replacement. It fit in my Kitchen aid dishwasher perfectly.It replace my old basket that was broken. We didnt want the kids cut them selfes so we place sharp knife blades down and it cut the bottom overtime. Worst! the cutted plastics part jammed my pump.... Today that comment marks the end of my journey inside a dishwasher and its inner component: a lot of learning and fun.So dont place your sharp knifes blade down in your basket folk, it's dumb and dishwasher tend to dull the blade. Hand wash them and cut yourself doing it... so much better.
