Elliott Smith Songbook

The best sheet music songbook I ever bought!!!

I'm enjoying learning the songs from this book. They seem a pretty fair approximation of the songs. However, I agree with the other reviewer who says it misses out detail and the intricacy of Elliotts playing. For example, don't expect to find any solos to songs tabbed out here. It is useful for the chords (all the chords are tabbed out - believe me - that's a blessing as there are loads of chords) and if you want to sing along with your guitar you'll find enough here to keep you happy. To be fair there is some tablature for the finger picking too. And to the casual listener they'll be pretty impressed with what you play from here.Good old Elliott - thanks for the great songs. Worth buying.

One song says it all. I turned to my favorite song and there was no tableture. I wanted the full information like all the instruments' music notes like the strings and bass in the background but all I got from this book was the music notes of the guitar. Very disappointing to true musicians.

I'm a long time Smith fan and have been playing guitar for about three and a half years. [...]. Finding the best tabs and videos takes time, but I've found that the end result is better than what this book has to offer. Specifically, "Angeles" and "Miss Misery" are off. The tune is close, but several of the cords are not what Smith played. They sound out of place when played with the whole song. Additionally, many of the hammer on's and short riffs are wrong or simply missing all together. Other songs like "Bottle Up and Explode!" and "Between the Bars" seem closer to the real thing, but admittedly I don't know these pieces very well.A quick google search of "The Essential Elliott Smith" shows that it does indeed exist, but it seems to be available only in the UK. That's nothing some extra shipping charges can't fix.
