A lovely & cool gift for puzzle enthusiasts
The concept is simple, yet brilliant. Depending on how many pieces you use, and the pattern of assembly, you can create lampshades of different sizes and shapes. All the pieces are identical; parallelograms with "hooked" corners, and no up or down, no back or front. They are made of soft, flexible plastic and it is the elasticity and "springyness" of the material which holds the assembled lampshade together.I recommend trying out the smaller forms to begin with. This will provide you with a feel for the material and the concept. The kit contains 30 pieces, and if you build several small test shapes, you can use "fresh" pieces when you experiment, preventing wear, tear or breakage.Search the web for jigsaw puzzle lamp or IQ lamp if stuck; there are many instructive and helpful video clips and guides available online.A few notes of caution:Be careful when you bend and twist the pieces; as with all materials, they can be bent too far and break. The corners / hooks are the weak part, and when the shape is nearing completion, there's a risk of overstretching the last joints and connections. Nimble fingers, patience and careful study of the instruction leaflet is advisable. Also, be careful when you mount or insert the power cord and light bulb. The pieces interlock very tightly around the cord, which means that using too much force could cause the joints to weaken or break. And last, but not least: Do NOT use a powerful light bulb!I recommend a LED type bulb, or at most an energy saving bulb / compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) of 7-9 Watts as the finished shape has very little ventilation / cooling. To be safe, always turn off the lamp when you leave the room unattended.

If you like puzzles this is for you
My wife put it together, it took her about an hour. I couldn't figure it out. Instructions weren't very easy to understand. I first saw these at the Mall and the woman selling them tried to sucker us in. I wasn't about to pay 35$ for a few pieces of plastic then they wanted the light cord and bulb for another 20$ it took us some time to find out what this light is actually called. It sure is the perfect size, I'd say about the size of a basketball. We also got the led light for it, to light all different colors. I want one for each room but they don't put out very much light. Its more of a mood light and for looks.

We LOVE these
We bought a couple of these lightshade kits -- my nephew-in-law had to assemble them since I'd given up! -- but they are so pretty outside at night. We created a simple outdoor light assembly for it and we are leaving them out all year, they are hanging in our pergola. I'm sure if these fall apart in the weather/elements, we'll be replacing them with the same lightshade kits.
