As far as setup and general easy getting the Fibaro connected to my z-wave network

My experience with the Fibaro FGMS-001 has been nothing but exceptional, and during my testing which included 5 other motion/multi sensors the Fibaro stood on top as the clear winner. As far as setup and general easy getting the Fibaro connected to my z-wave network, the instructions in the manual proved to be extremely accurate and helpful. There was no issue getting it linked up and it showed up in my home automation hub (home assistant) without issue. As a preface I've actually bought 5 of these little guys, and for those wondering they're about the size of a golfball, maybe a tad bit smaller. The CR123A battery included in the packaging seems to have given me a good battery life, in my case using default settings the one I bought over a year ago is still going strong without issues. For those who have battery issues, I'd suggest ignoring the battery percentage values reported by your z-wave hub and only bother to change the battery if you're actually experiencing issues with the device not sending motion events. In my extreme case I also sat the settings so that it would detect and send a z-wave motion detection signal every 2 seconds, that way I could more accurately represent in my software if I was actually in a room or not and track movement throughout my apartment. So far the devices have lasted ~45 days on battery and show no signs of failing. The only wish I have is that these sensors had humidity detection, but if it means keeping them small and having a decent battery life I do enjoy them the way they are.

Does work with Samsung SmartThings with a device handler in your Samsung Account

Does work with Samsung SmartThings; however, you need create a device handler in your Samsung Account, then add the device handler (on github search for fibaro-motion-sensor-zw5.src), and then pair the sensor. I had to do it twice because I did not create the device handler first. Then I had to wait two hours for the sensor to update. But now I have all of the settings!! You should search for the Fibaro manual for a detailed explaination of all of the settings.I bought this one because of the temperature option. Otherwise, I am using Dome Sensors which are cheaper but also need a device handler. The Dome ones are magnetic so I can attach them to shelves. I used a command strip to attach the Fibaro to the wall. Both can be used on the app StringIfy.I am giving it only four stars because they are expensive. However, I will purchase a second.Amazon would not post my review until I removed all of the external webpages, otherwise I would have given you better directions. Good Luck!!Update 08/02/2018I like this motion sensor because it also has the temperature. I wanted to use this at the other end of house, but the z-wave signal was not strong enough (I had to add four Dome outlets to extend the range). Also, using a great device handler from github and Artur Draga , I am checking the tamper code to alert me when the dry stops moving.Just like other say, it does give quite a few false positive motion alarms. At least I think they are false positives. I have two that give the motion alert at least once a night between them. I checked my camera at the same time, but did not see anything; however, the camera did pick up a bug that was flying around at night. I keep increasing the settings. If you do not need the temperature, I would recommend the Dome motion sensor with a device handler from github from krlaframboise.

Unique Look but Works as Expected

The Fibaro looks different and has a unique design - it is a sphere. It is small and lightweight. It has an LED eye that lights up (if you desire) to indicate something has passed through its detection field. But most importantly, it works! I have it connected to my SmartThings system and it integrates well with the other things. I use it principally for motion detection - to turn on a light in the kitchen when someone walks in. However, I also use it for Lux so that I'm not turning on lights when it is already bright enough in the house. I know it can also detect movement (even earthquakes), but I don't have a use case for that feature right now. Overall- it is a great device and for me, was worth the extra money.

More junk

JunkI had to return two Fibaro water sensors because both of them burned their batteries down in only a couple of days. Not deterred, I bought a Nexia recommended Fibaro motion sensor. The device looks good and like their water sensors, some of the parameters documented in the poorly written extremely small type manual are not supported by Nexia. Also like the water sensors, changing the motion sensor parameters via Nexia is entertaining but not useful because the device will revert to its out of the box settings within a few hours. If you make the mistake of buying one of these pieces of garbage be sure to use the screw mount. The adhesive supplied with my device failed allowing the device to fall from the ceiling in less than 12 hours. Fibaro’s support is nonexistent. Calls to their support line are not returned and email responses are EXTREMELY slow and not helpful. I am returning the motion sensor because it consumed the battery within a week of installation. In one 24 hour period, the battery level went from 70% to 33% during a time when no one was home and the sensor was not seeing any activity. I guess it ran itself down monitoring the temperature and light level. The product looks good, it is just not useful and there is no support. I am now zero for three flawed, failed Fibaro devices. At least I am able to get a refund because Amazon will take back defective products. My hope is that they charge their sales commission back to Nexia for promoting these flawed devices.
