SASCourage Hunting Takedown Recurve Archery Bow

I decided at the age of 48 to add another discipline to my resume, and purchased this bow. I purchased it for the price mostly and was delightfully surprised with the craftsmanship. when I first attempted to shoot it I quickly learned the #50 draw weight was a bit much for me, so I ordered the #40 limbs. since then my back yard practice sessions have greatly improved. in time I will begin to use the #50 limbs again once the muscles which are used for drawing get worked into shape. all being said, my shooting continues to improve exponentially and I am enjoying my purchase more and more each day. the package is very basic and some will find there are some accessories which will be advantageous to purchase, but this is a wonderful bow, which appears to be built to last a lifetime. if there was an improvement to it, I would suggest a tool free bolt to attach the limbs to the riser, but if there were thumb screws there would probably be problems with snagging in densely wooded areas (6 of one, half dozen of another).

The bow is pretty clean shooting, I got the 60# right hand and have not had problems with it. One thing that kinda threw me off is that it never came with the rug rest. I’m relatively new to archery and didn’t really know what a rug rest was.

When I bought this, I hadn't owned or even shot a bow in over 30 years. My last was a PSE compound when I was in high school. I recently cleared some clutter out of the backyard and noted that I had plenty of empty space, so I decided to set up a little private archery range. This bow (50# draw, RH) was what I settled on after a few hours of reading reviews and I've been quite happy with it. Quality materials and excellent craftsmanship. Assembly was intuitive and quick.My primary use for this bow is target practice and exercise. I put about 25 arrows through it every weeknight after my workout. It's consistently accurate, easy to string/unstring (using a stringer), and comfortable to shoot. It is quite usable as a hunting weapon, in the unlikely event that I feel the sudden urge to go slaughter some frolicking forest fauna. I even bought a few broadheads against the possibility. I suspect they'll never even be fitted to arrows, but it's nice to have them if I need them.Whether you're returning to archery as I am or just starting into it, this is an affordable, quality bow which will serve you well. You're not going to win any archery competitions with it, but that is not its intended use; it is a backyard bow and serves that purpose admirably.

Let me start by saying I love the bow. I am the owner of a Samick Journey and a vintage Ben Pearson Mustang, so I have some experience with traditional archery and instinctive shooting. The reason I purchased the SAS Courage was to get a hunting bow with a lighter pull. I've had some increasing shoulder discomfort that has made it unpleasant for me to shoot a 55 lb. draw weight recurve. I opted for a 40 lb. bow, mostly for practice, but that I could hunt with in a pinch (if my shoulder doesn't get back to normal).The bow has a good fit and finish and a nice feel to it. The limbs fasten snugly into riser, aided by a metal stud that fits into a dimple. It does require a tool (hex wrench) to install the limbs.Feel is good, solid. The bow comes stripped down without any extras other than hex wrench and string. The limb tips are not reinforced, so a Fast Flight string is not optional. I installed a bear-hair rest I ordered separately and I nocked the string. There are no attachment points for add ons like a stabilizer or a sight.It shoots very well, comparable, in fact, to my Samick. There is some vibration but not enough to make it uncomfortable.There is a bad part, but a happy ending. The lower limb succumbed to the pressure applied during string installation. The layers between the outer layers snapped rendering the bow useless. I looked up Southland Archery Supply online and they had my Amazon order on file and IMMEDIATELY offered to send a replacement lower limb. Within an hour I had a tracking number emailed to me. The new limb arrived today... Absolutely amazing customer service (thanks, to Jeff, the sales and customer service manager at SAS!).I'm sold on the service. I am sold on the platform. And the riser is clean, solid and nice. I'm not feeling great about how that limb broke, but I am keeping my review at four stars... for the money, this is a nice bow. If it holds up after another month or two of regular shooting, I'll keep my star level the same, but I reserve the right to change it later if I have additional limb issues.

I'm only an amateur but I did do some archery as a young teen when I attended camp a couple of summers. My brother-in-law got a cheap bow for part of his Halloween costume and it inspired me to get back into archery as hobby now that I had the yard for it. Did some shopping around on Amazon and went with the Courage. I'm very pleased with this bow! Feels very solid and pretty well balanced. I went with 40lbs since I'm not trying to take down any game and I'd rather not destroy the wall behind my garage. Its a good amount of tension/pressure and allows you to get some pretty accurate shots when practicing.Anyone looking to pick or take archery as a hobby more seriously will be pretty darn happy with this bow. And best of all, it doesn't cost a ton!
