Roberto Clemente: Pride of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Great introduction to an amazing player. It introduces children to the real world of baseball and how a star gives back to the community. Highly recommend!

I was always a Roberto Clemente fan as a kid growing up in Pittsburgh. The story is about being a great player and a caring human being but never given the credit he was due. I love the illustrations too. A great book.

Really nice book

My only complaint was that the address on the package listed my name with my grandsons' address instead of their names and address. I was relieved to see they still got the book, but this error could have caused a problem with the delivery.

I do not understand all the controversy surrounding this book in some states/schools. I found it to be an excellent introduction to the one called "The Greatest" (all-around baseball player and person) to play in the Pittsburgh Pirate organization. It briefly and accurately describes the challenges he faced from poverty to MLB.The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was my slight disappointment in the artwork. As a person who grew up on W. Pa and was blessed to see Roberto play, I found the depictions to be lacking I did not expect portrait quality art in a book of this nature, but thought there could have been better likeness to the great man.

This is my baseball-obsessed 6-year-old son's favorite book. We checked it out from the library so many times that we finally decided to buy him a copy for Christmas. Will keep it forever. A beautifully illustrated story about one of baseball's greatest heroes.
