Model KN-COSM-1BA is a direct replacement for KN-COSM-1B
When my old product started beeping twice, I assumed that the issue was the need to replace the battery. When that did not work I went online and found the manual. It explained that the detector had a build in chemical decay process to notifiy me to replace the detector after it was 7.5 years old. Hoping for an easy replacement, I discovered that my old detector was no longer made, and it was impossible to tell if the wiring hookup matched my old detector, since what was missing in the pictures is the back of the produce. The connector is exactly the same on both as you can see in my attached pictures. Also you will see that the old one has greater diameter, but they both fit the same bracket. It took me longer to bring the ladder out of the garage than in did to change out the two expired detectors. A nice benefit to the new ones is the ability to replace AA batteries instead on 9v, and that you do not have to take down the unit to replace the battery.

"Chirp....Chirp" Ahh the Chirp is gone.
Purchased two to replace the existing two which could no longer monitor the Carbon Monoxide. These new one's are an improved design using 2-AA batteries instead of the more expensive square 9volt type. Additionally this unit allows for battery replacement in the front of the unit eliminating the need to disconnect from the ceiling to access the battery compartment via the back of the unit. They are a direct replacement for my 8 year old ones as they use the same wiring plug configuration as the old ones. If your existing Kidde Detectors are chirping every 30 seconds even after changing the battery the DetectorIs probably telling you "my useful life is up".The company I purchase from on Amazon Exceeded my expectations. A really good price, amazingly fast order processing and shipping.

I love these Kiddie Combo smoke/carbon monoxide hard wired devices - they work in place of smoke only devices!
We started experiencing problems with our old FIREX FADC #120-1182 smoke detectors, hardwired,120v AC w/battery back-up. Well, they were only 16 yrs old, but past the published 10 yr. life span. My search on Amazon revealed that we needed the Kiddie i4618 model, 120v with battery back-up. We have 8 detectors in our house, so I also decided to upgrade two of them to the combo smoke/carbon monoxide models (Kiddie KN-COSM-IBA). Both items arrived on time. This is July 21, 2018, and the smokes were Mfg in APR 2018, the combo smoke/carbon monoxide were Mfg in MAR 2018. Not bad. I also ordered the adapter plugs to go from the old plug to the new detector heads. Don't waste your time with these. (BRK ADF-12 Adapter Plug for FIREX) One end was wrong (the new Kiddie end) and it was easy to change out the wire-to-wire connections using existing wire nuts within the ceiling junction boxes. I wasted 20 minutes on the adapter plug fiasco, then it took 15 minutes per each device change-out. I only needed a ladder and Phillips head screwdriver. You will have to change out the mounting ring/base with new one included in the box, but it quickly mounts to the existing junction box mounting screws in the ceiling. No drilling or new mounts required. Pushed the test button on any device when finished, and all worked perfectly. Batteries are included in each device. I highly recommend incorporating at least one of the combo smoke/carbon monoxide devices in lieu of the smoke only detector. Good looking products, good quality. They look identical to my old FIREX devices. Very happy with the results of this small project.

False alarms. Stay away.
How could a microcontroller-driven digital analysis of the sensors in this device have false alarms? Unbelievable.

Great Replacement Detectors
I replaced all the smoke and CO detectors in my house since they were 15 years old. My house smoke/CO detectors system is wired for 115VAC (uses a three wire system to link all the units together so that all detectors go off simultaneously in case of an event). These are easy to install if you have already have an existing system wired in your house. The package includes a new ceiling mount bracket and a power connector that you must use to attach the units to your existing wiring system. These are the same type and brand of detector that were being replaced, so I was pretty confident all would function fine after installation. They did, and now I am confident that we are adequately protected.

Great features and easy install
I like the voice feature of this alarm. It was also an easy install. It was nice that these fit on the base of the older ones and that I could use the existing wiring from the older units. I ordered these to replace two of the earlier versions that were installed by the housing contractor. One of those had failed at the 8 year mark. It had a 10 year warranty on it as well. I would recommend that these alarms are replaced well before the manufacturer's warranty date. So, if these are similar in longevity to the others, I'll replace then at the 7 year mark. Although the others were still under warranty, it wasn't worth the effort and cost to me. The units have to be mailed back to the manufacturer and return postage included. It was more urgent to me to get replacements up and running rather than going through that process. Oh, the return info also said a receipt is required. Since the builder installed the older units, I also didn't have receipts. Too bad the company doesn't use unit serial numbers to verify the manufacturing date in order to confirm the age of the unit so that the warranty could be honored without the receipt.

Good smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
Building a new cabin with a loft, code requires that I place a combination smoke / carbon monoxide detector downstairs and up in the loft area. It also requires that they communicate so that if one alerts, they both alert.I showed the Amazon page for these detectors to my inspector and he said "yep" so I ordered two of them. They were easy to install, they work correctly, and equally important, my code enforcement inspector is happy with them and so am I.They are well built, interconnectable (hard wired), have a battery backup, loud, and reasonably priced. I would buy them again.

Old product!! Check the mfg date on the back.
Okay so this product has a 10-year lifespan, I open the box check the manufacturing date and it's already three and a half years old. I went to my local Lowe's found another brand BRK manufactured May of 2017 for $17.
