The 'Super Smash Bros' of Mecha/Anime fighting games!
You heard me Right! ‘Maxiboost on’ Breaks all the rules!Just like 'Smash Bros', this game offers a Huge roster, so even non-gundam fans should be able to find someone cool to play! Also like 'smash' the game lets you have fun if your a button mashing noob, but still offer tons of complexity for those who want it!Anime Arena Fighters often get a bad rap for being super shallow,If you're not a SUPER FAN of the show, you'll get noting out of the game. With their rosters padded with clone characters, and combat that boils down to who's autocombo does slightly more damage. The only reason to play them is to see your favorite characters use their super flashy movies. There are some exception, but when most people hear 'Anime Fighter' they expect button mash city. The Gundam Extreme Versus series is different, though! This is a 2v2 3d arena fighting game, that started back on the PS3, this series is an evolution of the older PS2 Gundam Versus games.(Gundam vs zeta gundam, federation vs zeon, etc)And it take the fun arcade style combat of those games and cranks them up to 11!The First title "Gundam Extreme VS" launched back in 2010, and I played the Japanese ps3 version, a little while ago. This was my FIRST introduction to the gundam franchise as a whole,I’d never seen a single episode, movie, clip, or even meme, yet the game Blew me away! There were so many mechs to try out, and so many moves sets, weapons and play styles, then I learned that there was this thing called ‘boost canceling’ where you can boost out of actions to cut down on the recovery time, and that you had various melee attack styles with various properties,And my enjoyment of the game rose to even higher levels! This new game “Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Maxiboost ON” uses the same core combat, but with many Improvements, tons more mechs, and even an option for LAN multiplayer! And much like the older entries, you’ll still have arcade mode (called branch battle) this can be played co-op (split-screen or online)And mission mode also returns, a single player mode where you work through various challenges, earning point to upgrade your mechs (upgrades only effect mission mode)There’s also online play, or free battle with 2-player split screen support.Overall I’ve been having a ton of fun with this series, and I think it offers a fair amount of single player content and good complexity, while still being fun for players who don’t want to learn all the systems. So it it sounds like something you’re interested in, I’d say give it a shot!If you’re still on the fence, you could pick up on of the eariler titles for ps3,“Gundam Extreme Vs” or “Gundam Extreme VS Full Boost”But are pretty cheap online, (~$10 used), and while the games are in Japanese, the menus are pretty easy to navigate.(Note: Gundam Versus 2017 is not part of this series)But regardless of what entry you play, I think you’ll have fun!Just be aware that none of these games have a ‘real’ tutorial, so you may want to check a quick YouTube guide or two, to get yourself familiar with the controls.Enjoy!

The best distraction from 2020.
A remarkably enjoyable... Arena fighter? I think that's the correct genre. I played the heck out of the beta and wanted to own a copy of the game. If you remember Virtua On in arcades, and enjoy fighting games you may appreciate this one. Tons of mobile suits to choose from, each with interesting play styles - melee, zoning, and hybrids. I was bummed out that I couldn't handle some of the Gundam suits from the series I enjoyed - but there are so many to choose from I was able to settle on one to enjoy my matches. Matches are fast and furious. This game exceeded every expectation I had. Recommended for arcade heads and fighting game fans.
