Excellent
It is hard to imagine the courage of hunters who persue maneaters. They are operating in the animal's territory with only their wits to overcome a much stronger adversary with better senses than theirs. Anyone that hunts animals that can kill them if they make the slightest mistake are a cut above most people. It takes true courage and a high sense of responsibility to your fellow man to do this.

Very Good
Very good reading. No foul language and clean clear stories. Proving again that a good author does not need to resort to base levels in order to yell a good story.

The book is defective.
It just arrived, so I have not yet read it. But several (4) of the pages were folded in half in the binding process, and consequently unreadable.

Indisch

MAN-EATERS AND JUNGLE KILLERS
This book was first published in 1957 (2011), has 167 pages, 8 chapters, and 16 B/W photos. KENNETH DOUGLAS STUART ANDERSON was born in 1910 in British India, was educated at Bishop Cotton Boy's School and St Joseph's College, Bangalore. He worked at British Aircraft Factory, Bangalore. His daughter - JUNE (1930) resides in Australia and his son - DONALD (1937) resides in Bangalore. He got a rifle from his father. He went to jungle alone, unarmed to meditate. As a hunter, he tracked down 8 man-eater tigers and 7 leopards and few rogue elephants. He was devotee of ' Satya-Sai-Baba' and carried a talisman from the Baba for protection, He spent later years in wildlife conservation. He also wrote a novel -'Fires of Passion', highlighting Scottish people in South India. He died, aged 64, on 30.8.1974, of prostate cancer. The book starts with Marauder of KEMPERARAI. A tiger had killed Anderson's old friend 'BYRA's' son-in-law. Byra and Ranga come to Anderson in Bangalore for his help. They decided that Anderson should be the human bait. Sitting in the tree, the tiger starts clawing up to Anderson and claws his behind. The tiger then falls off and vanishes. Anderson had to go back to camp, clean his wounds and inject himself with penicillin injections. Hiding in a hole, covered with cartwheel, Anderson waited for the tiger, who eventually comes and tried to dig Anderson out. The tiger was shot in the shoulder and disappears in to the forest. After 16 days, he manages to shoot the man-eater tiger. IT IS THE HUMAN RACE ITSELF THAT CAUSES THE TIGER TO BECOME A MAN-EATER.A sloth bear had killed 12 people and injured 24, attacking the faces of its victims, in NAGVARA HILLS , Mysore state. Anderson sprains his ankle but manages to shoot the bear. The man-eater tigress of MAMANDUR had killed few of the herdsmen, near the MAMANDUR Railway line. When one night the tigress moaned ahead, Anderson called her and as she passed him, he shot her behind the ear. The tigress was young and in best of condition.Anderson gets a letter from 'Ranga', his shikari, that a rogue elephant was killing cattle and humans, near GERHETTI. The bull elephant's tusks were 3ft long and met and crossed near their tips. They track him and eventually after 4 days, bring him down. A leopard man-killer of SANGAM drags a dog-keeper and is then frightened by neighbours. Then, he tried to drag a woman through an opening in thatched wall. After shooting the leopard (panther), Anderson found her to be an old female with worn canine teeth. The RAMAPURAM man-eating tiger started eating cattle, until a claw iron trap set for him, removed his (L) eye and (L) ear, and scared his face. Now, the tiger was busy eating people. The tiger surprises Anderson, who shoots the angry beast. When a large leopard of MUDIYANOOR start killing Anderson's friend's cattle, Anderson asks his son -DONALD to go and deal with it. From the 'machan', Donald injures the leopard and then next day when the leopard charges him, Donald puts 2 bullets into the leopard. The RAJNAGARA tiger was a 'mauler'. He had scratched 33 people from head to chest. He did not bite or kill his victims. However, the tiger had killed and eaten 200 cattle. Then 3 further men are mauled and 3 more never returned, possibly taken by the tiger. In 1955, one herdsman was taken by the tiger and one severely mauled, when Anderson was following the tiger. The tiger came face to face with Anderson, but decided to vanish and was not seen again. This is another of Kenneth Anderson's book which keeps you interested in his stories, until the end. Some other books by Kenneth Anderson are:-(1) Nine Man-eaters and One Rogue, 1954 (2011)(2) The Black Panther of Sivanipalli, 1959(2002)(3) The Call of the Man-eater, 1961(2002)(4) This is the Jungle, 1964(2005)(5) The Tiger Roars, 1967(2012)(6) Fires of Passion, 1969(7) Tales of the Indian Jungle, 1970 (2001)(8) Jungles Long Ago, 1976(2012)(9) Jungle Tales for Children, 1971(2012)Having born in Kenya, I enjoyed reading this book.

Man-eaters and Jungle Killers
Excellent writer. Another 5-star "Jim Corbett" level of quality book on hunting maneaters by Kenneth Anderson. Author also has a unique sense of humour and eccentricity which highly enhances the reading pleasure of this delightful book.
