Trusted brand of oil filters. Worth the price.
I'm using this PurolatorONE oil filter for a couple of reasons:(1) It offers extended service life up to 10,000 miles. While I don't extend my oil changes that long, I do tend to change at 5k to 6k intervals while using a good synthetic oil. So, I like having a little cushion there.(2) This PurolatorONE filter generally gets high marks when compared to many of the mass-marketed brands. Well done technical analysis I've read indicates a robust design using high quality components. Gives me peace of mind when I'm changing oil in my baby, a nearly 20 year old Dodge Ram.

Very good quality filter.
These are good quality and not expensive. Purolator is owned by Mann which is the brand I would usually use for my Volvo 240. The Purolator filter actually seems like it might be better than the Mann and less expensive. These are available for most cars.I just replaced the filter and compared the prior one (Mobil-1) to this one and they seemed very similar. Not made by the same people, but no big difference, so get the one that is less expensive.

Have Always been great filters.
Oil filters... You only get one chance to get it right, and unfortunately most of the filter is hidden, unseen. There are many ways to cut corners on the construction of oil filters and many companies do cut corners. The PurolatorONE is simply made the way you would make an oil filter if you were making it for yourself.

Quality filter but could be improved...
This is a fine quality filter, but could use some improvement. First, there is considerable "overspray" of the grippy coating on the "business end" of the filter. I find it necessary to scrape and then wipe off the overspray from the gasket as well as the threaded perforated baseplate. The overspray is loose enough that if not removed, could easily wind up in the oil that you are trying to filter. Also, the inner central tube is made of spiral corrugated metal strip that is wound into a tube shape. While the corrugation may provide added strength against "collapse", the holes punched in the strip are irregularly spaced, and the overall pattern is one where there seems to be too few holes, and the holes tend to occur in bunched up fashion, rather than be regularly spaced. This means that the oil after going through the filter media, cannot always easily find a nearby hole to go through in the tube, so much of the media is wasted because the oil will tend to go through only the areas in the media where the subsequent path through and into the central tube are the "shortest". Most other filter manufacturers have avoided this problem, by making the tube from flat (evenly) perforated sheet metal that is rolled into a cylinder, and secured with a single seam. Finally, perhaps due to the denseness of the media, the manufacturer suggests that the filter be replaced every 3,000 miles. So those of you who are using synthetic oils for extended oil change intervals, might want to change just the filter sometime in the middle of your interval, between oil changes, just to be sure you are not driving around with a clogged filter running in bypass.
