Just a very good story
Like the first in this series, this is an entertaining story with an engaging group of characters. While you don't have to read the first to read this one, you'll miss out on some of the relationship building that I think contribute to the second story's impact. It's a very good story, but it would have benefitted from spending more time on how things changed for Alec & Tara in Florida and less time on Tara's irrational waffling & jealousy.I didn't mind the incorporation of the characters coming up in the next two books into the story; it actually gives things a more natural feel.Rather, it was hard to get a full grasp of Tara's character motivations, & while much was made of telling us about Alec being temperamental, Tara seemed to be the one who actually appeared to be so. She just didn't directly take it out on people - unfortunately, indirectly, she did repeatedly.I suspect that's why the reviews aren't quite as enthusiastic for this one as the first (at least as of this writing). It has so much good going for it; it just needed more of their beginning & less of their mired middle - it's in the odd position of feeling fun & at the same time dragged out.So I definitely recommend reading it, just temper your expectations a little*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

It was a *knife* story
I like Alec's character and his parrot, Peaches. Totally disappointed to not have gotten to the proposal before the end. Looking forward to reading Lance and Jessie's story.By the way, these books need better editing. I have found several spelling errors and words where they don't belong. To some they might not be a big deal, but they trip my reading up and makes me lose concentration of the world I'm reading.

Peaches, bacon, bacon!
This is a fun series with great characters full of Low Country Carolina charm. This is about Tara, owner of a catering company Saucebilities and Alec her chef who’s wicked good with the knives. They’ve both made a habit of running from their problems, either literally or by sabotaging things, and both have scarred hearts. They have a whole menagerie of pets that play a fun part in the story. This has been a delightful rom/com series with giggles and quirky characters, with true friends human and animals. Settle in for a pleasant afternoon read. Clean.

Avid Reader
The story was good and clean. It was a little boring. I liked Alex but Tara was insecure. I didn't care for the "first person" dialogue. I walk, I stand, I reach. It ended VERY SUDDENLY. Sort of like a cliff hanger.

Cooking, puns, and love
I’m really loving this series! Makes me want to visit the southern states too. I loved the salty mister grumpy cat Alec. Loved loved loved the parrot Peaches. Loved the first person inner dialogues. And the story had lots of humor in it. Plenty of puns and knife jokes, which were corny but adorable in that way only dad jokes can be. So many things to love in this story. Not just the characters but reading about the cooking. I swear I wanted to snack the whole time I was reading it. I’m already wishing September was here so I can read about Jesse!Rating: PG, sweet, clean

Knife puns galore
I like cheesy puns, so I was here for the knife jokes! Cute romance between Alec and his boss, Tara. He's a grumpy cat and she may be a workaholic with no time for love. They both have some baggage to work through, but never fear, they get an HEA! And we get a teaser for the next book in the series which sounds good!

Really fun to read
I enjoyed this story and would think about the characters when I wasn't reading it. It is smart and sensitive and a great example of how important communication is and how our own thoughts can give us unnecessary grief. I strongly recommend and look forward to the next book.

Fun read
This was a clean read that had me laughing out loud in many places. It is well written and just a fun read. It is my first book by this author and I was impressed by what a good story this was. I hope to read more of her books. I enjoyed this story and I think you will too.

Absolutely horrible!
The book started out really well and I loved how both the MCs liked each other and confessed to it but the reason this book was absolutely horrible and deserves less than 1 star is Tara’s jealousy with Jess. It is understandable to be insecure and be jealous of someone as long as you know how to handle it internally and rationally but Tara was way out of line. She was horrible to a good person. She didn’t care that she had so many people in her life who cared for her but Jess had nobody but Alec and yet she never got or understood that. It annoyed me very much all the other characters in the book coddled this behaviour and even gave into her demand when they shouldn’t have.Callie saying no one has ever picked Tara first is not only inaccurate but it is also an unacceptable reason for Alec to abandon his best friend over a woman who can’t trust the man she loves. If were Alec, I would have dumped Tara and never looked back for even when Tara did come around she still didn’t have empathy for Jess and what she has been going through in life.
