The Tata Saga: Timeless Stories From India's Largest Business Group

Disappointing
The TATA SAGA is old wine in a new packing. Most of the TATA history/legacy has been well chronicled, and this book has nothing new to offer. There is no objection to the claim that TATAs have contributed immensely to the Indian industrial scene from pre-Independence days to the present. But projecting that it was not a business deal for the owners, but mostly a social responsibility is laying it too thick. Most of the TATA stalwarts mentioned in the book have their due place, but it would have been more credible if the few warts were also mentioned. To take an example, Ratan Tata’s business involvement with an UK based NRI lady, his letter to Thiru Karunanidhi suggesting a name for the Union Cabinet, and the less than professional selection of the Parsi Cyrus Mistri to succeed him, and the frantic effort to unseat him soon after Cyrus took over do not speak well of the entire process. His failed NANO small car also does not find a place. However, all great men have their flaws, and become humans in spite of them. Making them godly is to make them unbelievable.

It's a collection of stories from different books written on and by Tata group. It's a good snippet on the stalwarts of the group and some of the important companies of the group. You can use this to read short stories and get a gmilpse of the magnanimity of this century old company.
