Q: I need some help! okay so i have a 1997 gmc sierra 1500 and my ac compressor does not cut off unless i do so manually, it doesnt cycle like it should.

This switch opens the contacts ( It’s not a relay ) if the low side pressure drops below about 26 PSI. If it is low on refrigerant that will protect the compressor from running without oil being returned by the refrigerant. It also cycles the compressor to keep the evaporator from freezing. If it is hot enough the compressor will run continuously. If it is 45F and the blower is on low the compressor will cycle often.
