Missions in the Age of the Spirit Paperback – January 1, 2000

I had just read Transforming Mission by David J. Bosch but wanted to read a missiology book from a Pentecostal perspective. After reading such a thorough historical analysis, and in depth arguments, as presented by Bosch, I was initially disappointed by the lack of similar consideration to differing viewpoints given in York's book. However, having now spent more time considering York's contribution I feel that he intentionally summarises his position, rather than building an argument, in order to give more time to practical conclusions. His pragmatic approach might not satisfy the need of the academic but should not be underestimated as a useful contribution to approaching mission. It is worth noting that York considers the foundations of mission in the Old Testament, as well as the Pentecostal contribution to mission, two things to which Bosch fails to discuss in any detail.In short, it is an easy to read book, giving some insight into the theology and history of mission, while providing plenty of good practical information for those involved or interested in mission.

This was a text book for a pastoral class. It was very clear, historical, and responsible. It, however, was a bit hard to get through sometimes due to lack of conciseness. I like a book that gets to the point quickly when I am ready a text book. A must read for anyone considering the mission field!

If you are called to missions, know someone who is, or want to pray for missionaries then this book is for you. Such great insight!

Very difficult to read. This book seems to be written mainly for a religious scholar of the Pentecostal faith.
