I liked it because it suited my purpose

I regularly brew my own beer and cider, so having tubes for syphons around is a must. I thought I'd give this a try in case it made life a bit easier. While the tube will eventually get a siphon running, it seems to be more complicated than it really needs to be, a simple length of tube would have sufficed. The moving parts and seals just creates extra crevices in which bacteria can grown, and makes it all the harder to properly sterilise before use. The bottom of the device is glued in place, so cannot be removed for cleaning, leaving sediment 14" down a 3/4" tube. I've used it once, but I'm not sure I trust it to be clean enough again to use on another batch without contamination.

This auto syphon allows you to syphon without sucking on the end of the tube, making home brew slightly more hygienic, and also avoid a mouthful of half finished brew, or the spillages you inevitably get when trying to do this!I struggled using this auto syphon to start with. I didn't think it was providing enough suction. You need to make sure the tube is at least half inserted into liquid, then I had to pump a few times (by pulling the end up and down) and the flow started. Now I know this, I expect next time it will be easier. Cleaning is simple as the syphon tube comes apart.I will be using this when racking my wine from now on.
