I have not noticed that it stays cool but I have noticed that the pillow does not get hot. My bedroom is sort of cold when I am sleeping. But have not noticed the pillow stays cool.

Q: what's the height of the pillow? Or how thick is it?

I just receivedy my pillow, have fluffed it vigorously, and it's still less than 6 inches thick at the fullest part. Returning tomorrow. Not at all as described. Waaay too flat. Not like in the photos.

Q: So an additional pillow case is unnecessary?

It’s really totally up to you, it has a zipper cover but you might want to add another pillow cover. My wife uses it with an additional cover. I prefer the pillow as is. With the soft zipper cover that cane with pillow. Hope this helps.

It doesn't come w additional fill and currently you can't buy more separately. I sure wish I could though, because I feel my pillow is way too thin. I've had 5 neck surgeries and now have a 4 level fusion so my neck is not flexible. It feels like my head is pulling on my neck as it tries to run away unless I use a pillow underneath my Zoey for additional support. Otherwise it's comfortable.
