Product description Bar code gash, Brand New, Factory Sealed .com If you've never seen an aviation movie before in your entire life, you'll be blissfully ignorant of the fact that Memphis Belle shamelessly (and yet gloriously) incorporates just about every cliché in the flight-movie handbook. If you're a big fan of aviation movies--especially movies about World War II bomber crews--you'll be glad that the genre's clichés have been handled with such professional flair. As it follows the crew of a B-17 bomber on its final and most dangerous mission over Germany, Memphis Belle may be little more than a slick and highly authentic presentation of familiar thrills and characters, but it's a rousing piece of entertainment. Featuring an ensemble cast of fresh faces who've since enjoyed thriving careers (including Billy Zane, Sean Astin, Eric Stoltz, D.B. Sweeney, and Harry Connick Jr.), the movie exists as a fitting tribute to the men who fought and often died in the air over hostile territory. It's the Hollywood version of a 1944 wartime documentary made by legendary director William Wyler (whose daughter served as one of this film's producers), and as such it's a bit contrived and melodramatic. And yet, this exciting movie is almost certain to grab and hold your attention, offering an honorable reminder of the bravery and integrity that were crucial ingredients of any bomber's crew. --Jeff Shannon

... World War II in this film makes me feel like I'm with him
My dad flew a B-17 in World War II in this film makes me feel like I'm with him. He unfortunately got robbed and murdered in Aurora Illinois on January 15th 1996... this is the movie to watch if you love b-17s in World War II everytime I watch it I Cry!!! Those brave men a lot of which were very young homie 19 or 20 years old like my dad . Seems people these days have no idea what they went through so it we can enjoy America and its freedoms. If I was a history teacher I would make this movie and Saving Private Ryan a mandatory watch for any students who wanted to pass my class along with a few other movies about the sacrifices made so we can enjoy our freedoms in this country!!!

Excellent Movie but keep it in perspective ...
This is an excellent movie, with good acting and portrayals of composite characters from B17 aircraft during WWII.It IS NOT a historical depiction of actual events of the final flight, mission, or flight crew of the Memphis Belle. The actual crew of the Belle are greater than life is many respects and not represented by this movie. Again, this movie is a fictional history centered on an actual aircraft but the flight crew, mission and etc are composite sketches of what many B17 crews endured during the war.

Excellent Film About Heroism, Humanity, and Victory
A little bit overdone in places, but an excellent film about the comradeship and courage of American servicemen and what they did to achieve victory in World War II. In this case, the setting is in a B-17 bomber on a mission into Germany. The humanity of airmen and their heroism are displayed in an exciting, fact-based movie. My father had several friends who were in B-17s during the war. One had a hardware store with his brother. One was a jeweler. One took over his dad's five-and-dime. And, one was a lawyer who's misfortune was being shot down on his first mission flying over the Netherlands. They were all regular guys, just like the ones who flew on Memphis Belle. They took the war to our enemies in a battle of goodness over evil and against incredible odds. Like servicemen and women to this day, they acted with nobility, imperfections, and the greatness of the American character that built this country and longed for peace protecting our liberty. This is a good movie.

so much more than just a plane and crew
Sometimes you have to believe in miracles. While this is based on a true story, it bears little resemblance to the actual facts of the Memphis Belle itself, but like the Memphis Belle, it stands for something far greater. It's not so much the plane itself as the young men behind it. The very young men who went "over there" worked miracles. The kids depicted in this movie represent all of the flying boys that literally saved the world. There is something of all of them in this crew, and all of them are honored by this depiction. The look and feel and timing really bring the war home to the viewer, more so than any other recent war movie. It is more than a simple sum of it's parts. Watching it these years later and comparing these young actors to the middle-aged men they are now brings home once again how young, how very young, the heroes were that gave their all for others and for peace. Not without it's flaws, but wonderfully done nonetheless and hopefully this movie will remain a favorite after the last of these planes and men are gone.

Great movie but the Blu Ray was a dissappointment.
I love this movie and was really looking forward to the Blu Ray however the quality is not a significant improvement over the DVD. Some times they really put a lot effort to maximizing the visuals when they release Blu Rays and I don't think that is the case here. Not really surprising either since this isn't a hugely popular movie.Bottom line: If you have the DVD I wouldn't worry about buying it on Blu Ray.As far as people who don't like this movie because it is very historically inaccurate you need to just come off it. I have the documentary and it's great. If you want history watch that. If you want entertaining drama and action then this is great. I know this is about as far from reality as it gets, but it's still enjoyable and it's def. the best quality depiction of B-17 bombing on film. Irrelevant side point: My grandfather was pilot on a B17G in the 8th.

Memphis Belle - Beautifully filmed, emotional, good acting and an eye opener of days gone by
With so much focus on streaming content these days, prices of disks have become very affordable. We recently picked a handful of movies that we had not seen or just wanted to see again and add to our disk inventory, and purchased them through Amazon. Glad we did - has been fun watching them.Memphis Belle was an amazing watch for your entire family, and an eye opener to the past for the younger ones in our crew. I understand that this is essentially historical fiction wrapped around real people, a real plane crew and events that did occur over a period of time. The way it was put together, the connection and emotion between the cast of characters, and the outstanding filming of this movie, all combined to hit home with grandparents, parents and teens in our gang. This movie inspired our then almost-high-schooler to delve more into the Memphis Belle and read about the actual events and plane. Last year we even were lucky enough to attend a fly-in by the B-17 that played the part of Memphis Belle in the movie! Though the cost of the ride-along was out of our reach, we must have watched four or five take-offs and landings from the downwind end of the runway! We watched each touchdown as the B-17 returned, and felt the prop wash for each takeoff as the pilots ran up the RPMs before letting the big plane rumble down the tarmac and lift into the sky. Awesome day.Out entire family enjoyed this movie and it inspired us to further learning. Well done.

Grainy picture not blue ray quality.but it is a seriously good film.
I know this film is great but it will be better in blue ray. Update.. piture is grainy, not blue ray quality so my verdict is, Dont spend money on something that you can get cheaper on ordinary DVD format. Film is great but I give only 2 stars for picture quality. This at the moment is the best rendition of the film you can get... I highly recommend you buy it.
