Rusting
I suggest heavily seasoning it before use because this was rusting in the woods

Cast iron is AWESOME
This cast iron piece is great!! It’s heirloom quality, even heating means even browning, and NO TOXIC nonstick chemicals that you find in other nonstick surfaces, including those paper baking cups

Poor Quality
Not pre seasoned and it rusts easily. Quality isn’t what I had expected. Returning it.

arrived with rust but decent enough pan with good release first use making mini Dutch babies
I make Dutch babies weekly and recently have switched to using my Lodge L7B3 Mini Cake Pan for making individual sized Dutch babies. We have been entertaining last fall and this summer and I have become known for my brunch spread and I wanted to get a second pan so that I could make a double batch and bake them at the same time and be done so I decided to give this pan a try. Right out of the package I found it arrived with rust already on it. Okay, I am an avid cast iron owner and user and have stripped vintage cast iron down and reseaoned from bare iron before, so I got this. I cleaned it up and reasoned it just once before using for the first time. When compared to my Lodge this Hawok is all around smaller and its cups are smaller in diameter too (see 2nd and 3rd photos, Lodge on the left). This turned out to be a problem for me. I made my usual Dutch baby recipe that makes seven perfect, walled little pancakes that I can then fill. What ended up happening is that same recipe, because of the smaller diameter cups on the Howak, filled the cups a little too full and they did not climb and makes walls but rather puffed up almost like popovers (see 4th photo). The taste was of course the same, and if you look at the last photo I posted if I turned the mini Dutch babies upside down I had a cup shape that I could fill, so not a total loss. Also, if you look at the bottom of that Dutch baby in that last photo you can see how cleanly it released from the pan. So, in the end I have decided that this pan does not work for me for my needs. BUT, since you most likely will not be needing this pan for as specific a use/recipe as I, then this is a decent enough pan with good release on the first use. I took off one star for it arriving with rust on it already and for the fact that for only five bucks more one can buy the made in USA Lodge pan.
