Decent knife, but over priced.
Tekna is good stuff, but it’s a little pricey for what it is.

Not quite what I expected. Cool idea. Small parts could easily be lost when you open the compartment. Also hard to close compartment. Survival book is nice and laminated. The print is really small though. The silver blade is exposed in the sheath. Not good for camouflage! I believe this knife was made to survive if you get lost on a ski trip and want to be found. Never buy this for a soldier. Get him a pilots survival knife preferably made by Onterio Knife Works. Oh and the flashlight is way outdates very broken beam. I also think over time some of the small plastic parts on the sheath could easily break. Especially if you fell on it. To expensive for what you are getting.

The Wilderness Edge Survival Knife System is Quality Gear
The Wilderness Edge survival knife is a rugged, quality piece of gear. A lot of thought and attention to practical application has been put into the design of this system. The materials, fit and finish are 1st rate. I would rate it for medium / general duty uses but not necessarily heavy duty. In other words, you/re not going to pry open a stuck car door or hack you way through a dense jungle with it, but for general outdoor / survival use, it's ideally suited. This knife features a clever thumb-flick locking system that keeps the knife locked into it's scabbard until you flip the safety lock with your thumb and the knife is immediately in-hand and ready. (No need to pull the knife up / out of the scabbard.)inside the handle you have a waterproof LED flashlight which can be removed and employed as a stand alone flashlight -- can easily hold the light in your mouth if need be. In the attached survival kit, there is also a signaling mirror, fire starter, an innovative fishing rig and a wire ring saw I believe. There is also a bit of room left to add few fishing hooks and a couple of band aids.If I was a bush pilot or was otherwise subject to being stranded in the wilderness, this knife would never be far away. It could save your life when the chips are down!

Great knife and survival system
I was surprised to see this knife on here since they supposedly went out of production some time ago. I have several vintage ones with the cutouts in the blade, but they are too valuable as collector's items to use. This one, with the solid blade is much more robust for everyday use, and it appears that it can be easily replaced if need be.Unlike other hollow handle knives, this one had a full tang skeleton capped off by two handle halves - much stronger than the cheap junk from the far east - this is actually a quality knife. Inside the handle is the classic Tekna "Splash-Light" with a long-lasting lithium battery. The rest of the survival gear, stored in a tray on the underside of the sheath, includes some laminated "Lee" style survival cards, a button compass, a sharpening crock-stick, a firestarter stick, an animal snare and some small diameter nylon/polyester cord, a button compass, a signaling mirror on a string that can be attached to the knife to swing it through the air like a lasso to hopefully attract attention. Lastly, the kit includes a reel of fishing line and a small fishing kit including hooks/weights/etc. The reel actually attaches to the side of the sheath, and a guide eyelet attaches to the tip of the sheath, creating a small fishing rod/reel.Overall it's a cool knife that's much better made than knives like the Gerber Bear Grylls or the Camillus Les Stroud knives, and it includes a much better selection of accessories that might actually be useful if needed. It's never a bad idea though to carry a separate kit with comprehensive survival gear should the need really arise.

I'm glad I was finally able to replace it w/the better ...
Hello, I owned their first model(cut outs in blade) but it was stolen. I'm glad I was finally able to replace it w/the better one. You can fish, trap small game, signal, start your fire and sharpen it! Oh forgot, plus see at night... If they could just fit a best friend in, what else could you need when you're way out there? Great knife! Get one now! Thanks, take care, "GOD Bless", sincerely Randy.
