Living Up to Expectation
If you are a serious walker it is important to purchase a shoe designed specifically for walking. I have worn New Balance for many years and continue to have confidence in their product as well as the research they put into designing them. Walking shoes are lower in the heel than running shoes since when running you are leaning forward slightly more than when walking and thus need a heel with more elevation. I walk four miles every morning without fail and these shoes have met my expectations fully. This is my first pair of this model and I will continue to purchase them as long as available. I go through a pair of walking shoes about every six months. Don't make the mistake of waiting too long to replace shoes. I have a supinating stride and normally replace shoes when the outer heel wear affects my stride. Your shoes may not appear to need replacement and since wear is gradual, the changes to your stride due to wear may not be noticeable. I suggest that once you replace a pair of shoes, after about two weeks wear the old pair and you will have a reference for replacing your shoes in the future as you will notice the difference. All the advice aside, I am very pleased with these shoes and recommend them. They aren't the "coolest" looking shoes on your feet but I am only interested in functionality as I wear them strictly for my daily walk. If you are looking for cool, then I suggest another model.

What Happened to New Balance Quality?
Sadly, New Balance shoe quality is really going downhill. The "higher" number NB shoes have historically been of high-quality, with firm suede/leather sides and nylon mesh, with very sturdy soles. I've worn them for years, and love them. HOWEVER, this pair of shoes feels flimsy... arch support is much less than older models, and overall, the shoe feels more like a nylon slipper for the beach instead of a first-class walking shoe! If this is what NB is selling as a MW877, it's the last purchase I'll ever make! Very disappointed...

give good support, not pinch or hurt
I walk a lot with my dog. Shoes have to be lightweight, give good support, not pinch or hurt, not be too stiff, fit perfectly, especially width, hold up over time. I always hope to find a replacement for the 928V1. This shoe falls short. I disliked how it felt in the beginning, it got better over time, but just when it seemed to be feeling decent, the cushioning on the sole started giving out. I wear a 13 2E; this shoes feels like a 4E. Very wide toe box. It actually reminds me more of the old-fashioned tennis shoes from the 50s, which weren't all that bad. If you know of a great walking shoe to replace my forever shoe, the original NB 928, let me know. I've loved 2 or 3 shoes by different makers in my long life that I considered to be my forever shoe and then, they change them. When makers started having China and Vietnam make shoes, it went downhill for me. They stopped fitting well. My advice to young bucks: learn how to make your own shoes so you never have to depend of some co. putting their profit ahead of your satisfaction. I spoke to a NB rep. and he really didn't care. I understand. You're always going to find enough customers who don't really care a lot about whether their shoes are perfect. And it's all bottom line.

Very comfortable with clean look, no tread wrap around
I like New Balance shoes. I learned many shoes ago that NB runs about 1/2 size smaller than many other shoes. So if you normally wear 10 1/2, try the NB 11 for a perfect fit. That is my experience. I have some foot problems and in general NB has very cushioned and comfortable foot beds. The uppers wear well too. Some are better than others. This MW877 has the best feel out of the box and I've worn them several weeks now, every other day, all day, without discomfort. That is unusual for me and is why I am writing this. NB has many styles. I have many of their walking shoes, the MW series, and will share what I've found.I have the MW977 boots, and MW780, MW950, MW759, MW3000, and now the MW877 shoes. While all these are the MW series walkers, tread and comfort vary. The boots have deep tread and have a stiff but very comfortable foot bed. I've had them for years and the stiff foot bed has not deteriorated. Great for walking a dog along a creek or a longer trail hike, but not for gardening because deep tread allows lots of dirt to pack into the bottom. The 780 and the 950 look similar. The 780 has almost as much tread as the boots and a mesh top. The 950 has an all leather top and very light tread. Former good for light hiking, latter for gardening. All three mentioned are older and may not be available now. I mention them so that if you have them, it may help you with my comparisons. Also the last two have had their foot beds deteriorate over the years. They are fine for a few hours, but then my feet start to complain. I've tried the replacement soles and they just haven't worked for me. I have foot problems, they may be just fine for you. But grasp that all these NB shoes have uppers that wear well enough to consider putting replacement soles into after several years. These last three shoes are newer, within the last two years. The 759 has been my "go to" shoes for everyday with jeans. Very comfortable foot bed with mesh upper and medium tread. They look similar to cross trainers with the medium tread. The 3000 I got earlier this year. They are all leather uppers and have light tread, There is some similarity to the 950 mentioned earlier, but the 3000 look much nicer and they are very comfortable for all day. They look nice enough to wear with casual dress slacks... my opinion. The new 877 are kind of a cross between the 3000 and the 950. They have the mesh upper, so they look a little like cross trainers, but the tread on the bottom is so light, it reminds me of a boat shoe. It's not what I expected - different look. Not that they don't look good. They have a very clean look, no tread wrap around. Putting them on changed my mind. They are the most comfortable NB shoes I've had and they look pretty good too. So I hope this comparison helps. Just to prove my opening sentence, I also have a pair each of the NB cross trainers and runners. I do like New Balance.

"These are the walking shoes you are seeking" - in Obi Wan voice
Gents - this is the finest walking shoe I have ever found after MANY years of searching.I am on my fifth pair!I walk 5 miles a day, religiously. I also use a standing desk at work (standing 6-7 hours a day)...this is all on the same pair of New Balance walking shoes.I had previously tried 4 different kinds of Vionic shoes (don't bother), 3 other brands (awful), and two different New Balance options, including the 165.00 ones. The MW877 is the best "bang for your buck" possible. All New Balance options were great, but this model is the best value.I injured by back several years ago (2 herniated sics, 3 bulging) so cheap shoes won't work. New Balance gets it. My back never bothers me!Don't even hesitate.

Not impressed.
I bought this brand name shoe, on the advice of a relative who is very active. I have just recently been told I should start walking for my health. I bought these in late August 2020. The fit is fine, but even with different inserts, my feet still hurt after a two hour walk. I bought a cheap pair of shoes from walmart, that has memory foam, and they are quite a bit more comfortable...

Pretty good for the price
I've been shopping for reasonably priced walking shoes for a while. I searched every local stores I know and the price was either too high or they didn't have my size (12).I've had two pairs of New Balance shoes in the past, and was completely satisfied with them. I remembered that their 12 size fits me perfectly, and this one is no exception, even if it's a different model.Build quality is good, price is reasonable and the sole is very grippy.I like to walk about 10 kms everyday, so my shoes wear out rather quickly. I hope these will last me a while. They're not the most comfortable shoes I've had (I still prefer my Onitsuka Tigers) but they'll do the job I think. Also, I think they look pretty good.

Most comfortable shoes I own
These are great walking shoes...probably the best I've ever worn , but after 2 months they are falling apart!! The stitching is coming out on the top of the toe and I foresee me replacing these in another month . This isn't what I expect from New Balance for the premium price I paid . Where is quality control??? Very disappointed .

Good looking and great fit
Quick delivery. Nice looking pair of shoes. Very comfortable. The orthotics can be worn with or without the original shoes inserts. The laces are quite sturdy. They remain in their place. The foot rests well and there is no pressure on the toes. This is a true 12 4e, unlike what New Balance (and Dunham) are doing with their new products that are more unwelcoming for wide feet at the front.
