If you got a bad fly problem like I had you will see the entire jar fill with dead flies in a couple days. Dumping it out produced the most disgusting smell I've ever experienced so be warned and don't breath in when you do. Extremely recommend these just don't place the jars around where you want to be they attract the flies with an odor. When you need more bait go for off brand refills, cost way less and work just as well.

These things work! I laughed at the "rate features" part where it asked me to rate the scent. The bait stinks. Badly. I rated the "scent" "5 stars" because that malodorous and tantalizing scent is what brings in the flies. The dog is intrigued and I know she is contemplating a way to roll in that stinky goodness.Again, these traps work and work well. They have to be in bright light; they won't work in the dark. They have to be placed in an area that is out of constant wind because flies need light and calmer conditions to fly and zero in on their next meal. I placed two of these in the backyard AWAY from the house. No sense drawing flies closer to the house, right? Within 30 minutes I had flies zoom around the bait yelling, "Let me in! I'm hangry. LET ME IN!" Three days later the jars are a quarter full of flies. The more flies that get captured, die and start to rot, the stinkier the traps get. For those who say these traps don't work, I'll challenge them and say that they didn't read and follow the easy instructions. If there are cluster flies, flesh flies, common house flies, blue bottle flies, or blow flies around, these traps will catch them.By the way, I didn't include photos because these traps are disgusting when partially filled with rotting flies. I can't wait to empty them and rebait them. Yay me!

This item works fairly well. However....I hung one in my kitchen, at the window over my sink. I kept looking in the cabinet under the sink, the kitchen garbage can, even my kitchen drawers, for the source of the smell. I swear to you, I was convinced something had died in my kitchen.I scrubbed the heck out of my sink, my counter, and my floor. I poured vinegar and lemon juice down the drain several times. I washed my window inside and out, and I washed the sill. I bought a new dish drainer.After a couple of weeks of going nuts looking for the source of the smell, I had to remove the fly trap from where it was hanging in order to take down the curtain to wash it.Holy mother of.....yes, the fly trap was the source of the smell. Thank goodness I didn't spill it. I would have had to sell the house. While I was gagging and dry heaving, I wondered why the manufacturer made these things smell so bad. Then it hit me. Flies are attracted to rotting corpses and rotting food.And that, ladies and gentlemen and others, is what these fly traps smell like. Rotting flesh. Exactly like rotting flesh. How does the manufacturer make these traps smell like rotting flesh? I really, really, don't want to know.I immediately put the trap out on the patio, close to the door, hoping that the flies trying to get into my house would stop at the trap first. Yes, you can smell it when on the patio, and going in and out of the door. You can bet that if you have a dog, the dog will be in this stuff like...well, like flies on stink. Keep it away from pets, and kids, it might be dangerous for them. I'm not going out there to look at the label. You'll have to go to the website yourself to check out warnings. On the downside, friends won't be stopping over for lunch on the patio. On the upside, friends won't be stopping by for lunch on the patio. And don't put one of these traps on your front porch. Your mail carrier will undoubtedly think that that smell is you, and he'll call 911. If you're not home, the cops will break down your door, expecting to find you, lying prone on the floor, covered in...that's right...flies. Your neighbors, without asking you directly or offering to help, will point and stare and gossip for months. You'll be tempted to go over and tell them that that smell is the last person who minded your business instead of their own. But don't do it. The cops will come back.Anyway, I thought the package should've contained a warning, like "smells like dead things". Or the slightly more subtle Eau du Putrefaction. But I can see how that might not be an effective marketing campaign.So I'm still on the lookout for effective fly control. Meanwhile, I'm using my $1.00 fly swatters that I got at Walmart. I have one in every room. Gets me out of my chair. And my right arm is getting pretty buff. Which looks ridiculous considering the condition the rest of me is in.Things will probably continue this way until, one day, the post man will smell the smell and call 911. The cops will break in and find me rotting in my chair, fly swatter still in hand, covered in...that's right....flies.

These little traps do just as they promise— they kill flies! I have one hanging next to my chicken coop and there is no longer a fly problem out there. It’s a miracle! I am on my second one for the season— I choose to replace rather than re-use— I cannot imagine trying to dump out a whole jar full of dead fly bodies along with the gross attractant. Better to discard and start anew! IMHO! The trap rather stinks, but that isn’t much of an issue as it is hanging at the back far side if the coop. You must keep the water level up in the jar. I have found that the long narrow tip of my small houseplant watering can works best for this task, and I add to the water level pretty much daily. I highly recommend if you have an outdoor fly problem.UPDATE— I just set up my first trap for this season. It was filled to the brim with flies in not much more than a week. Ordering more to take me through the summer. It may attract some flies, but it also gets the ones that were already around.

One summer there were so many flies that I had to do something about it. I saw this and thought I'd try it. I figured if I could take care of the flies outside, they wouldn't get into my house.I bought the pack of 3, figuring it'd last all summer. Nope. Each one lasted a few days before it was FULL.Follow the instructions to mix the packet and set up the "trap." I put mine outside by our trash where there were already tons of flies. Then, you wait.I checked on it periodically and was shocked to find a good number of flies in there already. I checked a day or two later and it was so full that the flies went in and went out. BUT, whatever poison or stuff is in there still got on them. My trash cans, recycling bins, and surrounding area had at least a hundred dead flies just sitting there as if they were little fly statues.I know it's reusable, but I just took a trash bag, dumped the trap in, tied it and put it in the trash immediately. I couldn't imagine how disgusting it'd be to dump out and re-use.The same thing happened with the other two. These are effective and quick, but with such low effort on my part. It was amazing and incredibly effective. There must have been thousands of flies in each trap.Next time, I'm going to put it on the far side of my property instead of near my trash cans to attract them away from the house. There must be some scent it gives off, although I didn't smell anything.Either way, this product works so well. So so so so well. It's disgusting though. But highly recommended if you have a real fly problem.
