Programed business bands 151.??? and was able to talk 10 + miles from high point to highpoint (across Mahoning Valley).On 2m Ham. I am picking up repeaters 3 counties away clearly into OH and parts of NW PA, I can hear some further and one near Pittsburgh but not as clear with stock antenna.All Baofeng/Pofeng radios are not only good starter radios for HAM and great options for small business. Radios offered my MOTO and Kenwood that do offer similar options are 2 to 3 times the money. While there are a few quirks with the companies programing software miklor.com compensates with a better free version of CHIRP and their site answers many questions about the radios that makes getting them functioning simple and fun.The radios them selves are as said a step up from the 5R. Better antenna, keyboard layout, feel and look.I would recommend the 82 or the 5R to anyone looking for a transceiver that will give them an inexpensive full functioning alternative. This would be a great option for Boy Scouts looking to get there Radio badge and anyone looking at HAM radio as a hobby or experienced operators wanting a solid inexpensive 2 Meters and 70 Centimeters radio.It is also a good business band radio for small business, (horse stables, junk yards, hardware stores). Similar Motorola GP380 radios sell for 150.00 bucks each.

Super radios for the price but not easy to program. Great if you have a friend experienced with this type radio.Great bang for the buck! I know a cop who uses one when on special duty such as controlling traffic for a road crew. He is able to listen to his favorite FM radio which will automatically be interrupted if their is a police call. If you buy more than one, get the cloning cable so you can very simply program the second and any additional radios to match the first with a very simple procedure.

Great radio for great price. Please note pofung is alternate name for baofeng. Use the Chirp software to changed the saved freqs

These are great radios. The programming is tricky, hopefully I will get a handle on it. The radios themselves are great. Definitely recommend these. I go two radios for half the price of buying the typical hand held. They fell good and work well.

Perfect for backups to my main 82C.Update: Having issues with one of the radios audio. Unable to contact seller via Amazon. If seller could contact direct at [email protected], I may need to get warranty replacement for item. Purchased December 2014. Thanks.
