The World Walker: The World Walker Series, Book 1

World Walker is fantastic.
You can't go wrong with anything Sainsbury writes, apparently. The chatacters are immaculately drawn, no caricatures. You care about the characters in Sainsbury's books. Well written and the action is described with rare accuracy and attention to detail. World Walker is only one of his series of avidly readable books. Highly recommended!

Magic, Manna, or something else...I very interesting look at a genre beloved by millions.
I found this book a few days before Christmas. I looked at the reviews and liked what I saw. As an avid reader, I'm always looking for new authors to read especially, indie authors. The magic genre is one I always enjoy reading so when I find a new book I look at the premise. It's not surprising that many of these books like other genres, tend to be similar. When I find something different I have to buy it.I have also already bought and read the next book in the series. The series revolves primarily around Sebastian (Seb) Varden, a young musician whose life is about to change but not in the ways he'd planned. As the book description shows, the change will be as unexpected as it is brutal.I found Seb to be a great character. His ability to take the massive changes in his life in stride and keep his humanity in the face of temptations that we could never truly appreciate made him a strong and guiding force to other characters throughout the story.Mee, another pivotal character and arguably the most important, provides both comic relief and the catalyst for a large portion of Seb's actions throughout the story. The required villain of the story is Mason and as villains go, he shows to be one of the worse. It's difficult to imagine any reader of this book that at times is not gripping their Kindle or book with fury as we read the evil that Mason directs without the slightest moral qualm.I finished this book in three days and the next one in the series in two. It's not often that I get hooked on a book that I have a hard time putting down and even more rare to do the same with the next book in the series. If that's not endorsement enough for you to give this a try then you'll be missing out.

I LOVED this book!
I seldom give a book five stars - I reserve that for true classics, like the Iliad or the Lord of the Rings. But I'm going to help this indie author out with 5 stars, because I *adored* this book. Ian Sainsbury is just a natural storyteller -- the prose, the characterization, the narrative, is just so smooth and assured, it's hard to believe the is his first book as he states in the author's note. I just fell in love with this book, its protagonist Seb Varden, and his mystical sci-fi adventure. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series.

Facinating sci-fi
I didnt know what to expect starting reading this but got interested after reading the reviews and another serie from the same author. It did not dissapoint, the story is original and facinating and if you enjoy sci-fi and supernatural novels this is worth killing time over. I don't like spoilers so i wont go into details but the caracters and villains are well written and the story build not bad, defently will get the next book in the installament

I want more
About halfway through this book I thought, “who is this author and what else has he written?” How surprising to find this was Ian’s first novel! It’s emotionally engaging and intellectually stimulating, because the words are placed just as they should be. I’ve always been a fan of the more humanistic side of science fiction and the urban fantasy, and this hits the mark in both realms. I’ve now read the second World Walker book and The Picture on the Fridge and found them equally well-written and entertaining, and I’m about to hit up World Walker III.Ian, thanks for the Author’s notes as well. I also really enjoyed Stephen King’s notes, as you do, and those of the late, great Isaac Asimov. Keep up the good work!Edit - I’ve now finished the World Walker and Halfheroes series and into The Blurred Land. Ian Sainsbury’s writing holds up just as well as his first book promised. I’m so glad I found this author!

I doped this book like the russian droped her clothes
I got about halfway through this book, but I really couldn't get any further. The main flaw with this book, is that the author very much wishes that he could do the devils tango with a girl. I doubt he's ever actually done so, but thats the vibe the book gives off.The pro, is that the female characters do seem to have a personality, which is why I continued to try to read this book. But whenever theres a female character that shows up that isn't Mii, the author ca';t help themselves but to either describe their favorite parts of their bodies, or talk about how much someone wants to be baggin someone else. Its sad, as I am quite interested in the basic plot. Its like, soo weird. So on Earth, we got some people with magic powers, and they hide this form society. Then we have the main main character, who meets an alien that gives him super powers. Lol I have no idea where to book was going, but I was on the ride.If this book was only told from Sev's (the main main) characters POV, it probably could have been just barely salvageable, but in every other character's POV, the thirstiness of the author goes up by 11.Like, I do not see why I had to read about jungle lady and her 5 bed budies, nor about Sev's childhood crush who was abused by Sev's rival in his orphanage. No, thank you.Anyway, I dropped this, like the Russian girl drops her clothes in whichever chapter that was(around half way through the book). Welp, at least wes is probably gonna have a grand time with her. I am not.

Brilliant. Inspired
In short: Brilliant. Inspired.Full review:I'm going to review all four books in one as I read them back to back. I'm fairly fortunate in that I come to Ian's books late and he had completed the quadrilogy. Lucky for me really. I'm a lover or the larger books as I really like to submerge myself into the story and characters. So for me the four books make one sizeable book, split into four parts. I strongly recommend reading all four back2back and in order. Yes each one can be read separately, and each story stands on its own. But in my opinion, all four books work best together as one epic tale. The four books chart story of Sebastian Varden. A middling successful musician who starts the first novel as someone about to commit suicide. Not exactly the most foreboding of starts, but one that piques the ole curiosity right from the off.Now if you read all the other reviews, the vast majority of which give Ian five well deserved stars, you will know each book's story well enough. As a fellow writer I'm going to review these from a writers viewpoint, just to be a little different.Ian is not afraid to let main characters die. George R. R. Martin has shown the publishing world that you can kill off characters and it is OK. Lets face it, we don't all live in the Disney inspired loveliness that there is a happy ever after for *every* character; well except for the baddies that is. This is one of the many things that I feel adds a depth to the story telling that is missing from other writers.Ian's characters are *real*. You can connect with them. They exist. You empathise with them. They have flaws, and are all the more real for them. Even the secondary characters have a depth normally missing from other works. These are people, they have more depth than the page they are written on. Top marks!Ian mixes magic, religion and Science Fiction. A mix that would normally be reserved for SF masters such as Peter F Hamiliton (His Void series) Or a mix which can easily lead to disaster. His touch upon each topic is inspired and illuminating. Respectful is another word. Depending on your take of religion & faith is how you will form your own opinion on this topic. For me, it was thought provoking.I personally loved the way the characters developed. I liked the way Ian addressed super hero issues. The recent crop of Marvel films have *just* started to address these issues. No longer are they unapproachable icons of perfection. They are flawed, far from perfection. They are real people with all the baggage and imperfections that you and I have. Seb, is this personified. I wish I could write characters this real!In summary. Great story telling. Enthralling, emotional and immensely readable. I didn't want to put these down. I am genuinely impressed.Sean P ChattertonP.S. I had to dig my copy of Lao Tzu's book after reading these.
