The Purge: Election Year [DVD]

Someone didn't get the woke expiration memo
This might have been woke in the director's head but as a movie it falls flat. So without giving any spoilers, this movie gives the viewer a sense of how a woke teenager would imagine how this event would begin in America. Coupled with tangentially linked emotions that "elites" supposedly have about poor citizens, it pits them against an idealized proletariat of diverse people, and breathlessly fantasizes over what violent comeuppances they endure. As if we can't already get that on twitter. The director capitalizes on that social rot, instead of surprising the audience with a balanced shake. Yes I am talking about race; "rich white people ruined everything" and "white people turn into supremacists if government falls apart" is overdone, boring. The movie as a whole is still scary jump-scare wise, but too predictable. Also the church scene could have been completely left out; if you want to make a mockery of someone's religion, have a point to raise or a valid criticism, instead it was just disgustingly degrading in a way that was pointless. The audience can see your caricatures of people of faith, your condescension, your implications, and it's not even entertaining, it's cheap and low, and you wouldn't have the sack to do it to other faiths.

Absolute racist trash.
All the purge movies are bad but at least they were mildly entertaining. This whole movie was about how white people are bad and a woman should have won the Presidency.

Between the first and the second mash up
It is okay. Again, I found myself rooting for the killers like on the first movie because the damsel in distress is flat out dumb. She makes poor decisions from the beginning that creates unnecessary chaos. The hero is the one picking up her slack constantly and people die and get hurt. I understand the set up of why it is that way, but the character is of an intelligent woman against the purge due to her family being murdered, a politician fighting for change, and then she goes ahead and becomes self-absorbed and stubborn that puts everyone in danger. I could not believe that as a premise so I Was rooting for the bad guys.

Political bias, and fear mongering.
Just as many of the other reviewers have have stated; this film is full of left wing propaganda. So much so that it makes the movie unwatchable.

A senator who opposes the purge is targeted for assassination. Lots of action and surprises.
A young girl's family is murdered during the purge. The young girl grows up to be a senator, running for president, who opposes the annual purge. Not surprisingly, the rules for this purge have been changed so that high-ranking officials can be targeted. The senator takes refuge In her heavily fortified home, not realizing that she is surrounded by traitors. She is evacuated at the last moment by a loyal Secret Service agent and the ensuing chase across the city leads to plenty of confrontations, gunfights, And last-minute surprises. As this franchise has worn on, it is become more and more of a political message but this one manages to get their point across without being overly tiresome in that regard.

Satisfactory Ending to the Trilogy.... If thats the end.
I didn't like this quite as much as the first two but still thought it was good, also did like how they drew prior characters and years together. This is one of the better made trilogies out there, and they could leave it as is. Knowing Hollywood, however, I'm sure someone somewhere will come up with a way to take it further. But all in all, I thought they did a pretty good job with all three.

Interesting allegory for the current political landscape.
Another year, another Purge. This time, with a twist. Based on the current political climate, "The Purge: Election Year" was pretty good. The story follows Charlie Roan, who, as a child, was tortured and forced to watch her family get murdered by a Purger. Fast forward 18 years later, and Charlie is a U.S. Senator running for President in efforts to end the Purge once and for all. Her opponent, is part of the political elite that wants to keep the Purge going strong. In essence, the Purge is a way to kill off the poor and make the rich richer. Enter in Leo (Frank Grillo from "The Purge: Anarchy") who is Charlie's lead security. He's tasked with keeping her safe and alive to survive Purge night. Murder, mayhem, and chaos ensues. There were some really great scenes here, and some that seemed unnecessary. I was extremely disappointed in the fact that despite some of the characters on the cover have incredibly cool costumes, they are seen for only a very, very brief period. At least with "Anarchy," the villians on the cover were more prominent and served a role in the film. The "Uncle Sam" and "Lady Liberty" characters are really one-offs, which is a shame. Is is better than "Anarchy?" No. Better than the original? Yes.

LOVE this series
LOVE this series! Unfortunately, this is the last of the series (I believe, anyhow). If you haven't seen the first two, be sure to watch those first. This is a continuation from where the last one left off, allowing the purge for everyone (no one is excluded this time). Plus, there is an election coming up. So, there are those that want to end the purge and those that are for it. This movie is just as good as the other two. If you have never seen them, it's a cross between Strangers and Hunger Games, I think. It's a genre all it's own, really. It's classified in my mind as horror, but it's not really. Every year they purge. So, people are allowed to murder and commit various crimes without fear of punishment. However, you have to be careful not to be killed yourself. It's survival of the fittest in its best. I LOVE the series, but it is definitely not for everyone. I recommend for those who enjoy the first two OR who are horror fanatics.

Another Night of Blooodshed
Now this one is creepy with no friends or niegbours to help you as everyone is out to get you. This one is about an presidental election weather to continue with purge or not. Being betrayed that forces a contested senator for president, out on the streets with only one security guard that they must face it to survive or die. I rated this an A grade for the ideas that kept coming and for the actors that keep you guessing. Now it's munchie time so feet up and relax or try to okay as this can get you going with some of the twist and turns that is thrown at you. Enjoy!

Good movie, hard to keep the interest going after the first two films in the trilogy but still a worthy purchase.
Third of the trilogy, an interesting story line although a little of the “here we go again” feeling from the first two. A good movie but having seen all three im not sure how they could make a fourth without becoming a boring repeat. Some good scenes and some humour. Recommended.

Amazing Film.
Delivered when it was expected and no damages. You always worry when they do a trilogy of a film but it has definitely lived up to expectations of the first and the second one! Loved every minute of this film! Would definitely recommend this film!

Intriguing and a compelling watch
Yeah, i like this film on this dystopian subject which some Sick People hold dear. I say this, because the writers and directors have been sympathetic in their approach to this Subject and not breech a Cultural Divide.

Good film
I enjoy horror films and I'm a fan of the purge series. They are an interesting premise, and don't go too far when it comes to gore. Each film is a stand alone story so you don't need to have watched the others, but I enjoy that they all show the same idea from different perspectives, and would recommend watching them all.
