THE Marv-ell is back
I always loved the original Captain Marvel (Marvel Style) he was original and interesting. Then they let Starlin kill him, a bad thing but very well done. This is how they decided to bring him back, it isn't perfect but it works. The art is superb and the story is well paced, a very good read.

Better than expected
Better than I expected. Pleased that they found a way to honor the character who actually died a true death and remained deceased in a comic book universe! They cleverly addressed Capt. Marvell's resurrection while giving dignity to his death. Sorry this had to be a miniseries, I would have liked to see more.

One of the best stories told during the Secret Invasion series.

Captain Marvel is back. At least he should have been.
This would have been the perfect way to bring back Marvel without a cheap resurrection. This was a perfect idea. And should have continued. Lost opportunity. But that said, this collected work is fantastic.

Better than I expected!!!
Captain Marvel: Secret Invasion delivers a stand-alone intrigue story as well as a tie in to the Secret Invasion title wide event of 2008. New and old readers alike will appreciate the job that Brian Reed does to explain a "supposed" man out of time suspense story that leaves you guessing till the end. The only thing a new reader would have to fear is being unfamiliar with Captain Marvel's character however by the middle of the book you are brought up to speed on his back story. And this isn't really caught up in continuity issues, just a great stand alone story. This was highly enjoyable and I'm not a big fan of modern comics but this was awesome!

Bored in Space: How This Book Made Me very sleepy
The Captain Marvel of the Marvel Universe was never my favorite book or anything, but I do have a few fond memories of some of his Silver and Bronze Age adventures. Unfortunately, my only fond memories from reading Captain Marvel: Secret Invasion came from whatever daydreams I had while nodding off as I kept trying to read this story. This miniseries compilation was part of Marvel's SECRET INVASION crossover event--a very NONessential part--in my opinion. It chronicles the supposed return of this character to the Marvel Universe, following his late Bronze-Age death in the graphic novel THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN MARVEL. However, we learn about halfway through that this "return" is not exactly what we initially think it is.The story introduces an interesting point here and there (such as the existence of a cult that worships Captain Marvel as their god), and it also contains fallout elements of Marvel's previous crossover event, THE CIVIL WAR. But none of these elements ever mesh into an interesting narrative. In fact, the story movement is slow, uninspired and uneventful. Considering how the story ends, nothing here ends up being of much relevance, in the big picture. As with many of these kinds of crossover events, 90% of what you read are pointless fillers and bland storyline extensions that, outside of marketing purposes for a new monthly title (or even a line of toys), have very little narrative substance. This story was a waste of time. I don't feel any wiser having read it. This is not a tale I will remember or reread five years from now. If you want to read some decent stories about Captain Marvel, look for the Marvel ESSENTIALS series on this character. The original JIM STARLIN run on Captain Marvel is nothing short of genius, and there are enough enjoyable non-Starlin issues of this title's original run to satisfy any comicbook reader's craving for heroic adventures.
