This is surprisingly good ripe puer
I normally buy my puer tea from small specialty tea sellers. The tea market is ripe with nonsense...bad tea, fake tea, poor tea marketed as quality tea and sold to unsuspecting buyers, etc.I've had quite of bit of puer tea over the last 8 years. Some of it pretty bad and some of it quite good. For the price, this puer tea is quite good. The cake doesn't have any bad odors, it brews up strong and dark (5 second rinse, then 30s, 60s, 90s steepings). It's got the typical earthiness of a ripe puer and has a nice lingering sweetness. After the 3rd steeping, it still brews up in decreasing darkness and most of the flavor has faded, but that's par for the course of a tea of this price. I've had more expensive teas fade out more quickly than this one.My only hesitation is, most likely, you can't trust any of the printing on the label. So we know nothing about the tea's actual origins or the condition of the plantations (heavy chemical spraying or not) or anything like that. Without lab testing, it's hard to say what the actual underlying quality is of this tea. But it does taste good. The cellophane-wrapped box it's shipped in looks like it's being marketed towards Western tourists or Westerners shopping in Western Asian markets. So it doesn't have that boutique higher-end feel of quality tea, but that doesn't mean the tea inside is crap. Did I mention it tastes pretty good?I probably won't buy this again because I've gotten spoiled on higher end tea, but I'm glad to have found a decent tea on Amazon (which I can't say for the other puer I ordered that smells like perfumed cleaning chemicals).

Great tasting fermented tea!
This is an authentic fermented Pu Er black tea. Greatly enjoyable and should age well to enhance the flavors even more!

It's okay. UPDATE: Better replacement tea cake!
Got this to try as a beginner gongfu tea drinker. It's an okay tea but has a fishy aroma and slight fishy taste. If you wanted to try something authentic with a great price, check out Yunnan Sourcing. They make sample boxes and have lots of fun teas like tea Oranges. Probably won't pick this one up again, but it was okay for a first teaUPDATE: Seller refunded my money and I ordered a second cake. Glad I did, no fishy smell or taste in the second cake. Taste was good and I would buy this again. It's my daily drinker, great tea energy. When I dont want to fuss with trying something new, this is a comfortable and delightful tea. High compression, so only a little is needed! There are still stems in this tea cake, but for the price I dont expect perfection. Good tea cake, will buy again when I am running low.

Tasty stuff
If you're looking for a real earthy, smoky tasting green tea this is the one. Great for multiple infusions.

Great Tasting Green Tea
This Dragonwell Green Tea tastes just like the one we bought in China. High quality tea leaves with a nine smooth flavor. I love this product.

Looked good... But... - Refunded
The size, initial scent and look of the cake looked great! I wanted to buy my first taste of Chinese Red Tea using a gift card for Amazon. I got everything for a traditional Chinese Tea Experience. However, when I initially went to break off a piece, the Cake was DENSE. I know these were packed but I practically had to hammer a piece off, and not only that the leaves all broke off into smaller flakes and pieces which already confused me since I know a cake should be packed but not flaking off ( I had researched what a good cake should be like before hand )I at first thought maybe it was just how I broke it off? Unfortunately as I did my first wash steep, and proceeded to take a good sniff test of the tea. The scent gave off a HEAVY fishy aroma. And not only that the tea was EXTREMELY dark even on the first wash.I've tried Chinese rolled and roasted tea before in actual tea houses and shops in San Francisco. And I was very surprised how dense and unpleasant the smell that came from it was. I tried doing a few more pours, swallowing what I could from the first couple steeps hoping it would taste better... But it didn't.I know how good chinese quality tea should taste and this cake was extremely flaky ( creating a DARK water quality. The picture I included is ONLY the second/third steep and I couldn't see the white bottom of the cup ), fishy scented and Bitter with a sort of odd after taste. I couldn't finish the last couple of cups I know I could have gotten from the few grams I chipped off.I knew I was taking a risk not ordering from a team shop near me or at least going in store to buy a cake I can examine myself. But the fact I spent $20+ dollars on 350 Grams that I am now reluctant to drink and NOW can't return I am just overall unsatisfied...Packaged well but horrible taste, scent and color. I know how low quality tea tastes and unfortunately even though I had high hopes for this cake with so many good reviews... Gotta say can't recommend..EDIT :Fortunately the seller did acknowledge the situation and messaged me for a refund personally which I appreciate. I might reconsider buying from them again but might just get a green tea or something else besides a cake. Poor storage or packing of a cake could lead to the dense fishy scent and taste. So overall the quality of the batch could have been bad. I appreciate the refund and have changed from 1 star to three in good spirits of the situation

Had a fishy smell to me
I'm new to tea so take that into consideration but when I first got this I made a cup right away and my first thought was being really surprised at how dark it brews in the first cup. It had a slight fish odor in that first cup that I thought maybe would go away if I let it "breathe" with the plastic wrapper removed. Unfortunately, many weeks later and a few cups later and that smell is still there and it makes for a less enjoyable cup of tea than a better smelling leaf.I do know that I am new to tea so perhaps I can't discern quality very well but I do have a loose leaf 'Chinese restaurant' puer tea from a friend to compare it to and that one has a cleaner scent.
