I did a little customization by painting a little desert mural on the back panel before I put it together. In his previous enclosure which was glass, I had put a painting behind it, and I had started to notice he’d come out just to look at it! So I had to paint him his own scene when I got this :)It took a bit of time to put it together but it really wasn’t bad, and the directions were pretty good. I didn’t have a power drill so I did it all by hand and it still wasn’t bad. It’s very sturdy when all together and looks so nice! Even my little grump of a tortoise is very happy with it.In the big open part I put down some self-adhesive pieces of tan felt to give him some grip but also to be soft. And in the fully enclosed part I put a good inch and a half of playsand, then a couple inches of coconut bedding and topped it off with a layer of cypress mulch. He loves digging and burrowing down into that.Tortoises should have their basking spot to be around 100 degrees F and between 70-80 degrees F on the cool side. This enclosure is big enough for him to thermal regulate properly! The basking spot is right at 100 degrees, the middle is 80 and the opposite side is just over 70. I was worried it was going to be too small but it’s actually perfect!I highly recommend this if you need a nice, sturdy, good-looking small enclosure.

Let’s just say my first review was rejected for profanity. That’s how strongly I feel about the poor quality of this product.Everything that you should know so you won’t buy this product:1. The latch was smashed in production.2. Four holes were drilled incorrectly and I had to drill them myself.3. Two holes were missing completely and I had to drill them myself.4. The front “door” is not a door. It’s just a “ladder.” It can’t be closed.5. There is mismatched yellow wood glue all over it.6. The screws are very poor quality. I had to use mostly screws of my own.7. The top was misaligned. There are gaps when it’s shut.8. The wood is very rough and thin.9. The instructions are hard to comprehend.10. The assembly was so frustrating that it took me three hours to assemble.Ten very non-profane reasons not to buy. Please heed my warning!This will serve its purpose (holding a tortoise) for maybe a year. If you want something permanent, keep looking. This is not your product.

I just got 2 of these. I have several tortoises and this is the best habitat I have found for them so far. Right now I'm using it for a 5 inch Russian and she loves it. I put some old place mats in the bottom for easy cleanups and some eco bark for bedding. She comes out to eat and bask & then back in her nest later on to sleep. I have 2 hatchlings and when they are big enough these will be perfect for natural sun outings safely! I have 5 cats and with these I don't have to worry anymore about them bothering my sweet tortoises or any other predators outside either. They were easy to assemble and seem sturdy enough to last for years with proper use. So glad I found them..well worth the price. They were shipped fast & got them in 4 days!

Excellent indoor/outdoor habitat for my tortoises. Easy to put together and exceeded my expectations. Definitely happy that I purchased this Tortoise Box. My tortoises love it! Recommend this item over the competition! The grey compliments my decor too! Thanks Amazon!

Do NOT waste your money. This thing is terrible. It came wrapped in butcher paper that was still wet with stain. The entire thing smelled like it was stained yesterday, and has not gone away after being unwrapped for over 24 hours. There’s also a strange crystal substance all over that I had to wipe off.The screws that are given do not hold. I would get one end screwed in, then turn to the next, and they would pull right out!The instructions also don’t specify that the end pieces are different, which was pretty annoying once I figured it out, after I had installed one.Overall this thing stinks. Literally. It’s poorly constructed with cheap wood and screws. Buy something else, or build your own. It’ll probably be cheaper and easier than this.
