CHAMPRO Pro-Plus Umpire Chest Protector

Lightweight, well-sized and shaped above the beltline, this is a really good product. Best protection for the collarbone and shoulders compared to any other manufacturer. I am 5'11", 170lbs, and took a Large. The placement of the adjustable straps made it feel like it was built for me once I fitted it. However......, one fault. And other reviewers may have addressed this too. First thing I did before even putting it in to use was cut out the pit-protectors. I don't understand how they even thought this design works on this model. My son tried it on for 1 minute (6'0", 220lbs), first thing he said was 'yup, these have to go'. NOW, with then removed it is absolutely perfect. Your pits are protected as you go into a crouch by the front tab protectors on the shoulders. The inside pit protectors did nothing but cut right up into your armpits. You could not avoid them. So, to end my 5 star review, consider cutting out the pit protectors and this is the best product anywhere near this price range. Very satisfied!

I bought this for my first year calling behind the plate for little league up to high school. Im 6 ft 250 lbs so I got a large and fit me perfect once adjusted. Every game I called I was behind the plate bc I love it and very confident in my gear! I never felt pain whatsoever, from foul balls off the chest to a 90+ MPH fastball straight to the chest and never had the slightest bit of pain. It's very light in weight compared to some of the guys I call with, but also very durable. (I also bought the velcro adoman extension bc I was worried it would be to short on my torso and wore it once and never wore it again, I would NOT waste your maney getting the extension.) Anyways as far as the chest protector I dont have a single complaint. Its comfy, light, and durable and will last me a long time. The only thing I could see problem with long term would be the buckles breaking bc there plastic. All around an awesome protector I love it.

I Umpire up to 20 year old kids in both softball & baseball. This chest protector is very light weight which is great. It fits well (I am 6' tall and 205 lbs)the harness is comfortable and the snap connections well designed. It seems to wick away the sweat well too (although I am not a heavy sweater)I did take a shot with a softball in a 16U game the other day off my arm just below where the shoulder protection ends that stunned me, ouch! I will be buying the arm extensions soon. I don't see the point to the abdomen extension, when I am crouched down my abdomen is protected just because of the natural plate stance. In my 150-200 game experience I have very rarely taken one off my chest. Arms yes, hands, face, ankles, feet, shins, shoulder, jaw, (got under my mask thought I broke my jaw - never turn your head!) but I have NEVER taken one off the Abdomen. My one complaint is the little arm pit extensions just below the shoulder pads. I have only done about 10 games so far with this so I am still adjusting. I tried moving the arm pit extensions out in front the shoulder pads last game and that seemed to help from digging in. I might try to velcro it outside or even cut them off, I don't see the point to them. Other than that, great value, great protector. Comfortable and feels safe. Update: As of this date 3/24/2014 I am a certified Umpire now and do all levels of baseball. I started at the little league level in 2007 so this up coming season with be my 8th year as an Umpire and I am about 400 games in. I did 110 games in this protector last summer and it held up great. Very comfortable. I have purchased the arm extensions and am very happy I did. They are very comfortable and at another 10 bucks of so why not.

For the price and what you get in a chest protector you cannot go wrong.1) covers your entire top of your shoulders and also behind them on the top and backside so foul balls do not hit your shoulder at top of them or your back and hurt. For that matter the chest protector covers your upper torso completely and protects you from any foul ball unlike other or older style chest protectors.2) Super light weight, hardly notice it on3) Super cool, amazing how cool it is in summer to wear.4) Soft, fits perfect, and you can adjust it easily with strong straps and Velcro. Like the Velcro better than snaps or latches or metal since Velcro is much faster to adjust and maneuver.5) take hard hit foul balls with ease, you will not even feel them at all, and it has lots of heavy soft padding inside protector.6) highly recommend after many years using a Plus Pos chest protector, this Champro model is awesome and I love it, and yes I would buy another or recommend to others, you cannot go wrong.

Easy on and off and simple adjustments.

I returned this item. Was so big I couldn’t bring my arms together to make a call.

I purchased this unit before the season so after about 40+ games, here are my thoughts.Comfortability - Good . The protector is lightweight and the mesh on the outside is somewhat breathable. I still had sweated like a beast during a 2-day MS tournament.Protection - Very Good. I had been hit a few times on foul balls at the HS and MS levels. Didn't hurt and was hardly felt on all of them. I was pleasantly surprised.Overall - Very Good - I think overall this is a great value for what you get. I'll modify my review overtime on the durability of the protector. For the High School level and below, definitely worth the money. One small issue is the abdominal piece not included. I purchased this separately for full protection. This is pretty much why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I'd highly recommend it though.
