Great find at a great price
I've been trying to find this at local book stores to no avail, so I was glad to come across it here. Book was in pristine condition, exactly as described

Because I could not stop for Death ...
Because I could not stop for Death -He kindly stopped for me -Dying is usually an unedifying processfull of pain + fear + suffering. Often its a squalid , sickening struggle. As a tribute to her dear departed friend Robert Mapplethorpe Patti Smith gives us The Coral Sea. Here is lyrical prose as immortal as Emily Dickinson's Because I Could Not Stop For Death.Patti imagines Robert on a ship voyaging across the seas- a sea of possibilities -he doesn't know just where he's going- but he's gonna try for the Kingdom if he can. As he dreams of the past , maybe one of the other passengers on the ship is Death. for Death in all its majesty here is Patti Smith at her lyrical best.In all of Literature never has there been an ending as immortally beautiful as when the soul of Robert is freedby the hand of God.

Still—and always—inspiring
I’ve been a fan of writer Patti Smith since her review of The Rolling Stones in Creem or Crawdaddy (I never remember which) and “Just Kids” deserved all of the myriad of praise and acclaim it received. This prose poem to Maplethorpe will make anyone who reads it feel better about life, the universe, and everything.
