Toshiba X300 8TB Performance & Gaming 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive – CMR SATA 6 GB/s 7200 RPM 256 MB Cache - HDWR480XZSTA

This is not a gaming spec HDD. I use it for mass storage and so long as the capacity is not filled over 80%, the read and retrieval rate is good. I have 2 drives of this type in my NAS box and it is used for long-term storage. The drives have been running 24/7 for over 2 weeks straight and show no sign of imminent failure. As the specs on the drive show, it is not a gaming drive. It is not fast enough and will not play Star Field. But it is great to store and pull data for long-term storage. You can use it to save your game save-files and game mods but will not perform well for the latest games. Video files play well but there is a lag on the read and play.

I' have 1TB drives from Toshiba and they work fine, but for a family of gamers I needed a bigger drive, so I get this and I'm so glad I did. Easy install, fast and quiet, you won't be disappointed. Plus, Toshiba drives are cheaper than the other name brands.

I used this drive as a place to dump a variety of media files that I don't use often. It works well with my five year old PC build. I got it on sale so it was a great value.

Beware, this drive has a firmware issue that Toshiba refuses to fix. If your machine is set to sleep, you will lose this drive in File Manager and in Disk Management or Windows 10 or 11, and you will need to reboot your machine to get it back. Reaching out to Toshiba is useless as they either (1) don't respond or (2) suggest steps that have already been tried and then stop responding.Looking out on tech forums and Reddit this appears to be a common issue (and with the 8TB specifically). The only workaround is to not let your machine go to sleep, which wastes power. It's a shame I didn't find out about this problem before I bought the drive because now it's past Amazon's return period, and when I press Toshiba to send a replacement drive (this has been going on since I installed the drive, and I have had it less than six months, and warranty is supposedly three years) they ghost you.Tried brand-new SATA cables, made sure hotplug/hotswap setting are enabled in motherboard bios, moved drive farther up the case so heat from other drives is reduced, tried attaching a hard drive fan, nothing seems to fix. It seems to be a power issue that a firmware issue might fix but there isn't one. An absolute lemon. Avoid unless you keep your machine on 24/7.

This works great and the price is nice too

CAUTION: Good drive, but be careful. Not all x300 are the same, test speed before keeping (CrystalDiskMark). Purchased 2, one had avg read/write 269MB.s, while 2nd drive had 171 MB/s. Exact same model both purchased together. Had slower one replaced and this one is 291 MB/s. Again, happy with end result, but this difference is concerning of the manufacturer quality control.

Though my internal drives in my computer and the portable external drives I use are SSD drives, I still use mechanical hard drives for RAIDs, long-term storage, and backup. I bought this drive for backing up my photo shoots which average about 600-800GB. Many of the other drives I've used top out at about 150MB-175MB/s when writing image files from my portable SSD drives. This drive, however, consistently writes at a bit above 200MB/s. This may not seem like a lot, but it really is because it shortens my backup time. If you don't realize it, SSDs are NOT good for long-term storage. Though they are stable for the relatively short term, any long-term archiving should be written to HDD media.This is an excellent mechanical HDD. I've always had good luck with Toshiba X300 drives, but this is the first time I have purchased the 8TB capacity.

The only comment I really have on this drive is I've had thousands of drives in my history and this is probably the noisiest drive I've ever had I've tested it and everything seems to be checking out but it is still really noisy.

Purchased this drive after seeing somewhat okay reviews for it. The price, high capacity and benchmarks along with the okay Amazon ratings helped with my decision to purchase.2 years and one drive has already completely died. Extremely slow read/write speeds. I was using this for applications and gaming and game load times was taking forever. I went through normal troubleshooting procedures; format, defrag; chkdisk; third party scan tools and finally the Toshiba Storage Diagnostic Tool which revealed (shown in the image). Opened a request with Toshiba and was informed to send the drive to them for RMA.That was roughly 6 weeks ago at the time of writing. As others have outlined in their feedback, the drive went missing on their end despite my tracking showing it arrived the next day (I'm a 5 minute drive from the Canadian Toshiba HQ near Mississauga). After complaining I was informed it was send to the USA and takes 4 weeks to clear customs (evidentially Toshiba doesn't have a shipment broker...) but after complaining more, it was instantly received the next day.Now I'm waiting for their credit process. I reached out 3 days ago and was informed "You should get it by May 20th". The item was received on April 23rd. A month to process a return. 6 weeks to handle a shipment and a week to get everything setup. Longest RMA process with zero customer feedback along the way.Stick to a reputable hard drive brand

Este es el segundo HD X300 que compro, el primero fue uno de 6TB que tiene ya un año de uso y ha funcionado sin problemas por lo que decidí comprar ahora este X300 de 8TB después de tener muy malas y amargas experiencias con otros Discos Duros de otras marcas como los Seagate Barracuda, en general todos los HD's Toshiba que tengo no me han fallado, cosa que no puedo decir de las otras marcas en especial la que ya mencioné que me han causado problemas muy desagradables. El uso que les estoy dando a estos dos X300 que ya tengo es para almacenamiento y respaldo de archivos, principalmente de fotos y videos así como para albergar algunos juegos, quiero aclarar que no los estoy usando para cargar mi OS ya que este está instalado en una unidad M2 de estado sólido que está exclusivamente dedicada para el Sistema Operativo, todo mi almacenamiento de datos y archivos está en unidades de disco duros diferentes. Al igual que el primero, su instalación y formateo se realizó sin problemas e inmediatamente fue reconocido por mi PC, lo empecé a usar desde el primer momento y hasta ahora este segundo HD X300 de 8TB ha funcionado sin problema al igual que el primero, cuando copio archivos y están trabajando juntos los dos Toshibas X300 su velocidad de lectura y escritura se nota con respecto a otros Discos Duros más lentos por lo que me siento satisfecho con esta marca y en particular creo que este modelo X300 es un producto muy bueno, con muy buen desempeño para lo que yo lo estoy usando y además hasta el momento me han demostrado que es un producto, durable y confiable para almacenar, respaldar y conservar mi información y evitar así sustos de cualquier índole.
