Kanken Big Backpack for Everyday Use

I have been using a regular Kanken bag as a diaper bag for my toddler, but wanted a bigger one before baby #2 was born. After debating a long time between the Kanken Big Backpack and the Maxi Kanken, I decided on the Big because it has a side pocket whereas the Maxi does not. The side pocket even though a bit narrow, is a good size for my cell phone or a narrow sippy cup. The Maxi does have an extra zippered compartment to expand the size of the bag, but this bag has more than plenty of room for my two kids' stuff. The side pocket is a tight fit for a regular sized plastic water bottle. I looked into many other diaper bag backpacks but found them super over priced and also very heavy. I love how lightweight and large this backpack is. The padded shoulder straps are excellent, the regular Kanken does not have padded straps. The front zippered compartment is also nice and large and easily accessible. The few negative things about this is that the removable seat pad is just a thick piece of black styrofoam. Doesn't look too nice, but I guess it does the trick. Another negative is that the exterior of the bag (I bought this in black) leaves white streaks/marks really easily. The streaks appear when I rub the bag against something like a wall or at the creases of the bag. They can be wiped clean, but I guess the material of the bag somehow causes those white marks. I bought the Kanken Big because I was really tired of trying to cram all of my stuff into my smaller backpack, though now that I have it I think I could have gone with the original Kanken and been okay.It holds a ton of stuff, more than I'd even want to carry. The Kanken unzips all the way and it makes it so easy to see what you've got in there and to get things out without taking out everything. I'm 5'4, small framed, it's big but not so big that it looks silly on me. I plan to do the warm water rinse that they recommend to prevent color bleeding on my clothes, but I haven't yet and I've been fine.

I love love LOVE this backpack. I have a smaller version that I don’t use too often because it doesn’t fit much. This bigger version is perfect! I love that it has padded straps, which makes this much more comfortable to use than my smaller version. The color is also fantastic, and goes with everything (if you care about matching your backpack to an outfit). I’ve used it as a carryon for multiple flights, to carry food/water/mom stuff for a week in Disneyland, and on weekends to carry produce home from the farmers market. It fits so much!!I followed the company’s advice to submerge the backpack in water before using so there’s be less chance color from the dye process would transfer to clothing. It was terrifying to put a new backpack in a sink full of water but it didn’t ruin anything and actually dried very quickly. I had no problems with color transfer, and I think soaking it helped make it a little less stiff and easier to use.

This is my first Kanken backpack purchase as a gift for my daughter and for sure is not going to be the last. Very well done, excellent quality. My daughter love it.

I’ve wanted a bag from this company for ages, but was unaware until recently they had one this size. I was excited they had one that would fit my laptop, but it fits EVERYTHING. As much as my older backpacks but looks so much nicer and is way more comfortable.

This bag is brighter yellow than I thought it would be (I ordered Ochre) but honestly it's so beautiful I don't care. After a couple days of use (I'm a full-time college student), I noticed that even when full the bag does help my back and shoulders considerably. I've already recommended Kankens to anyone who asks me since they're roomy, fashionable, and extremely comfortable. I'll be ordering a kanken mini soon because I wish I could take this bag everywhere!

This is my first Fjallraven backpack. I've actually never handled one in a store, so I can't say much to whether this is "real" or not. Regardless, I thought the quality of my backpack was excellent. It's amazing how much stuff this held! I went on three trips with it over the past month... one which was a 4-day trip to Iceland. Very comfortable despite how much I put in there! It held my camera, clothes, toiletries, makeup bag, umbrella, and a few other essentials!

this backpack is great! it’s super high quality and looks great. it fits all of my stuff perfectly. i carry a 2ring binder, 3 notebooks, a computer and a pencil pouch nicely and still have a little room. the front pocket is a little small but i don’t mind. the color is really vibrant and the material is sturdy.

Bought this for my husband and he loves it!The colour is ox blood red, just as indicated in the pictures, and the size is spot on. I had agonised, measuring tape in hand, over whether to get a classic or big size before deciding on the latter. Boy am I glad I got the big: my husband's 6'1" in height with broad shoulders, and this bag looks just right on his back. I myself have this backpack in mini and classic sizes, and the classic one would be a smidge too small for a man of my partner's proportions.Fjallraven's celebrated quality of materials and manufacture are present in the bag I purchased, and the item has become a daily necessity with my husband. A great choice! Costly, yes, but you get what you pay for with this rucksack. Durable, versatile, and stylish.

Love it, large but not bulky, perfect for my commute. You're also able to fully open the bag, so you don't have to fish around for things at the bottom of the bag, you can completely unzip it and see all the contents. Very pleased that I ordered the Kanken Big, rather than the standard one.

Great simple bag. Loads of room for gym kit, towel, shoes and washbag.

Arrived promptly. Capacious bag with comfy padded straps. Could be improved with a zippable internal pocket, perhaps.
