Just wanted a digital rain gauge with an indoor display and chose this. So far I'm very pleased with my choice.Comes with a choice of clamp-to-a-pole mount or can be screwed directly to a flat surface. Chose to use the pole method with a wall bracket short pole purchased separately from Amazon, the plate and U bolts were a bit of a fiddle to assemble but it all went together OK and was soon tight on the pole. The funnel and filter clipped together easily enough and that bayonets on (Hint - mark the white body with a marker pen at one of the arrows moulded into the black funnel to make this easier to line up when you're doing this from your ladder) Check everything is vertical then pop the battery in and all's done there.Inside put the battery into the screen and set that up - it's pretty intuitive and there's a decent manual in the box.The sensor transmits to the base about once per minute. The display is clear but not backlit. Takes 2 AA batteries and stored data is not lost when changing the batteries.On doing a bit of research Ecowitt make a lot of other equipment and there's a smartphone app. To get data onto the Ecowitt server and hence onto your phone you need a Gateway (I chose the GW1200) which listens in on the signals from the sensor to the base and transmits the rainfall (and other data from other sensors like temperature) to Ecowitt.That all works brilliantly (will review the GW1200 on Amazon) but now I wonder if I should have bought a multi sensor unit which measures windspeed & direction, solar and UV light, external temperature & humidity as well as rainfall....

This is a good product and can work well. However my gauge stopped working after about a year. This was due to a build up of fine airborne debris that had avoided the spiral mesh and partially filled the measuring cup. This will have affected the accuracy. After removing the debris it worked fine.It is important to occasionally remove the collecting funnel and clean out the cup. Not difficult.

Only thing wrong was it didn’t rain for 40! Days after I bought it!!

brought it 4 months ago initally working well. since summer not much rain fall. now in end of Aug and trying to check rain fall. Been raining all day today, As on the image, it is not even detecting rain fall. Normall you will have a box marking on the left side indicating rain fall. Brand new battery inserted and remain unable to detect rain. Shame, cos I really like the rain gague. Returned.

Since my last Rain Gauge split due to ice, I have used this electronic one and to say I am impressed is an understatement. I have for many years monitored the weather and in particular the amount of rain that has fallen. This device measures precisely the amount of rain to 0.1mm and auto empties precisely at midnight. On the display indoors one can monitor the rainfall in real time. I have created an Excel spreadsheet with the daily totals and it is so much easier and more accurate that the old measuring glass type. Very happy.
