YUBISASHI JAPANESE FOOD (The Original "POINT-AND-SPEAK" Phrasebook)

much like the first "Point and Speak Japan" book I purchased ...
I will write a more detailed review in the future, but wanted to assure fans of the Yubi shashi (point and speak) books - yes, this book is written for English speakers wanting to learn more Japanese. I may post pictures if the author or Amazon allows it. With the popularity of Japanese food, I think this book would benefit hundreds, if not thousands of traveling "foodies". This book is a classic for me, much like the first "Point and Speak Japan" book I purchased in the Narita Airport years ago. Its great to be able to buy this book (in America) and not have to go through the airport and deal with Ebola screenings from the TSA.

This book is a MUST for anyone who is planning ...
This book is a MUST for anyone who is planning to visit Japan. Not being able to speak Japanese was a huge disadvantage during my first trip to Japan when it came to ordering food at restaurants or being confident in going into restaurants without English menus. When I found this book a couple years later, I knew this was exactly what I (and every other non-Japanese speaking tourist, IMO) needed.

Super Food Book
This book covers ever possible Japanese food there is and also gives Japanese expressions for ordering. Really very complete. Color pictures and drawing to denote the various foods and combinations.

Four Stars
Cool book, but why is only half in color? Pages 1-64 are in color, 65-128 are black and white.

Useful for learners, tourists and experienced speakers
This is a surprisingly comprehenisve book. I was expecting a few pictures of sushi and tempura - instead it's about 80 -dense- pages full of food, divided up by type (bento, noodles, seafood, vegetables, snacks, ramen...) and by region. Each item has a photo, the name of the food in English and Japanese, and a short (English) description of the food.I speak Japanese but I find the book very useful as a visual reference to all kinds of Japanese food, and a way to discover new food.

When your Japanese is so so
I found this book to be helpful in my learning studies. It has a pictures of the food (real photographed and drawn) while showing the Japanese literature and English but also teaches you how to say it with additional information on each page. Some foods are seasonal or special occasions and will inform you on that while also teaching you that some foods are regional. There is also a page for these meat groups; pig, beef, chicken. Which show you what part of the animal you are eating. This does not get into detail with each food, but to give the reader/traveler basic understanding on it. Majority of the book is in colour until you hit page 65 but once you it page 87 it is "Section 2... To Know More About Japanese Food" it continues on with English and Japanese translations. In section 3 it's the glossary. One thing I noticed is it has a price tag on the back of it, it reads CAN 33.95 and when I bought this (February 22, 2016) it was CAN $38.72 on amazon, from amazon. It is about a $5 difference which I felt a little surprised about because this book was purchased from amazon itself. It might not be a big difference to some but I thought this should still be added.I bought several books and the two that came in are exactly how you want them to be in.Another key note to those reading this, it is a thin book. It's jam-packed with basic information and it does contain Romaji.

Ludique et intelligent
Livre reçu plus tard que prévu (à cause du Covid et de l’impact sur les transports) mais en excellent état. Cet ouvrage est un petit bonheur pour qui s’intéresse à la langue et à la nourriture japonaises !
