Puff, the Magic Dragon Hardcover – Picture Book, August 1, 2007

There is not a moment in my life I can remember when I did not know Puff the Magic Dragon. The looming question throughout my life though was, what happened after Jackie Paper stopped coming to see Puff. The answer is as obvious as it is beautiful. Jackie grew up, and then brought his daughter to meet Puff. And the whole relationship started again anew. From generation to generation. L’ador V’ador, in Hebrew. Puff is truly the friend that has been passed to me by my parents, and now I have shared it with my daughter and nieces. Perhaps I have gotten sentimental in my old age, I always wanted to ask Peter Yarrow what happened next. It was so sad that Puff was left alone in a cave for the rest of his life. And of course, that is NOT what happened to Puff at all. Nor did Jackie just leave and never come back. Jackie gave puff the joy and love of his own daughter. THANK YOU PETER!

I'm giving this 5 stars because the board book is well produced, graphics were great and there's nothing really to critique if it's a story you wanted to read to the child(ren) in your life.I, however, don't have any children and found myself with a 'deer-in-head's light' scramble after my first nephew was born. Despite the 9 months of celebration and planning, the day he was born I realized I forgot to buy books to him - Amazon to the rescue! :) I purchased a lot of books, my family strongly believes in reading to children several times a day, and encouraging their love of books, but I wish I hadn't purchased this. When rushing about to purchase books, I thought back on books that I had enjoyable memories and this was one of them. Yet as I held my nephew on my lap and read it to him, I realized quite quickly (it's a very short story) how sad the story actually was! Also, for those of us that remember the song of this tale it does seem to lose something in the reading of the book vs. the story.To wrap up, this is a well produced & beautiful copy of the story if it's one that you want to share with your children. Just take a second to remember the full story and make sure it's something you actually want to read them.Happy Reading!! :)

Excellent book for keeping this story going in new generations. I paired it with a dragon plushie for my grandson and have given them both as baby shower gifts.

My husband was sung this song as a child by his dad so we gave it to him for Father's Day! It has beautiful pictures and the words to the song.

I came across this in a bookstore. I love children's picture books and collect them for myself and still have most of the ones I grew up with. The illustrations in this book are wonderful.As for the 'updates' to the story, I grew up with this album in the 70s and never remember feeling sad about the story. I agree there was no need to change the lyrics in any way, but PC is king (or queen! ha ha) these days. Interestingly though, Puff finding a new playmate does have a precedent: "The original poem [by Lipton] also had a verse that did not make it into the song. In it, Puff found another child and played with him after returning. Neither Yarrow nor Lipton remember the verse in any detail, and the paper that was left in Yarrow's typewriter in 1958 has since been lost."My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves both the book and the song. The first time I played her the song from the CD, after it was over she said "wanna hear Puff Dragon Sea again?" and then when we got out of the car she said "Puff Dragon Sea, I like the music!" The song on the CD that comes with the book is like a lullaby version of the song, very slow and mellow; I prefer the more upbeat original version (which is redone very nicely on  Peter, Paul And Mommy . And of course the addition of "and girls" to the lyrics sounds awkward. But she loves all versions of the song and now knows all the words by heart, and I can play the slow CD version for her when she's going to sleep.

A lovely story with wonderful pictures. Thick paper pages. A special book that my son & his little boy will enjoy together.❤️

Such a beautiful book, with beautiful art, and it comes with a CD too! I absolutely recommend all the books in the set.

This is a follow along book and the songs, which there are 3 of plus and instrumental, are performed by Peter, Paul and Mary. My daughter loves it and listens to it on repeat when she's going to sleep. The book is beautifully illustrated and if it is something that you enjoyed yourself as a child, it will bring back memories. The book, however is a paperback and the CD does not come with a case so added care is needed to make sure it does not get scratched. I recommend this book...
