Quality and consistency.
This product works well. Every time, starting a fire requires only two sticks and can be lit with a match.

I love this Fat Wood fire starter
We have a free-standing wood burning stove in our home and pretty much use it exclusively for heating the house. Before trying Fat Wood we used to use just about everything you could think of to start the fire. Some items worked ok but most would burn out before the wood would catch on fire. I'd have to try 2 or 3 times before the firewood would finally catch fire. My wife could almost never get a fire going so I was delegated to be the one and only designated fire starter. I used to have a good source for seasoned cedar to split into kindling wood and that was my favorite go to for starting the stove. But my source dried up and I haven't had any cedar in a couple of years. I had seen Fat Wood kindling in Wal-Mart a few times but for some reason (stupidity?!) I never bought any. It just seemed too expensive for the amount of kindling wood in the package.Well, I finally picked up some of the Fat Wood and gave it a try. I was amazed at how easily it ignited and how consistently it would start a fire in the wood stove. The stuff ignites so easily that my wife now starts the fires most of the time. I don't think I will ever use any other fire starter products in our stove. And as far as the concerns about costs, I've found that I'm actually saving money with the Fat Wood because I'm using much less of it than the other starters I was using. The stuff that I would have to use 2 or 3 times to start one fire.

Good product
Very effective fat wood, a bit too thick though. Perhaps cut 1/3 more or in half for ideal sizing. Just a personal preference for our use

GREAT stuff for getting fires started. Plenty of sap content
I can't speak to other people's negative experiences with this product, but I bought the 50lb box for my GF's father for xmas because he likes to have fires in the fireplace, and this seemed like a useful gift to that end.I admit I've never bought fatwood of any brand or type before this purchase, so I have no frame of reference for the sap content or cost effectiveness of this product compared to similar products, but just for the sake of fair discussion, the people who harvest the fatwood have no actual control over the sap content, they are just harvesting wood from stumps of dead trees (as I understand it)..BUT, I can say that this stuff has worked beautifully for me for fire starting, either in the fireplace or outdoor firepit. My first attempt at using it, I put 4 sticks (whole, not shaved or splintered at all) on the fireplace grate and a few 1-2" cross section seasoned oak pieces stacked on top, lit it up and it burned very well. The fatwood dripped flaming sap out of the ends and into the ashes in the fireplace which to me implies that there is a good (sufficient) quantity of sap in the wood. The fatwood sticks burned well, if a bit smokey, for about 10-15 minutes which is plenty of time to get most fires started. In hindsight, using 4 pieces for a fireplace may have been overkill. I will probably only use 2 next time.I also packed a 1 gallon ziploc bag with fatwood to save for the next several camping trips, and you couldn't even tell from looking at the box.At this rate, the full box should last several years!..

Good value for $
Seems like fat wood prices keep going up, this is a pretty good deal. Only 1-2 pieces are required, rather than the 4-5 pieces I’ve had to use previously. YMMV.
