They should teach this in school it's that good
I love this book😀😀😀😀!!!. It's so informative and the best thing about it for me is that it doesn't just tell you WHAT to do, it tells you WHY to do it which is invaluable and have never found another book that does that. Believe me I've searched! It goes through everything logically and step by step. I'm over half way through the book and havent come across an exercise I couldn't complete and to a good standard and that's because the book is so well written. He diagrams although in black and white, are soooo clear. Perfect. Dont get me wrong, it can be a bit heavy going because it's a thick book in black and white but it's all there in one volume and you learn so much. It's been so well put together, they know what they're talking about. The book hasnt fallen apart yet and am thoroughly impressed. I just take my time, read through the exercise and visualise doing it in my mind first and this helps sooo much when you actually come to sewing the sample. Less mistakes. I wish they taught this when I was at school. They should make this book part of the national curriculum. I've got a nice folder of samples and have been using this book for over a year, making my way through it when I have time. It's nice to look back and think "did lil ole me do that? " because it looks so complicated. A real confidence booster. Cant recommend this book enough. An absolute bargain for what you get. Best book on learning to sew ever!

This is your sewing bible. Fantastic.
Super impressed with this book and there are oh so many sewing books out there for the beginner, but I have to say, just buy this one!Every question you thought was silly and couldn't find in other sewing books....well this one has it.Right from the very first process of starting to sew, this books explains everything in good detail, but simple enough with great diagrams to follow. It also has exercises throughout the book with patterns for sample sewing exercises (not garments) in the back. So you can use this book as a sewing course if thats what you wish.As a sewer who is self-taught, this is the book I wished I had picked up first. Down to knowing which scissors/pins/ machine to buy. The real specifics you want to know.I loved that as a sewer of garments for a few years now, that this book still has plenty to teach me, even if it gets used as a reference guide after a few more years. I can not recommend this book enough and it is worth all the pennies and a 6 star rating if I could give it.Oh....and its a big, thick book by the way!

A weighty tome
What surprised me when this book arrived was the sheer size and weight of it: it's big and heavy. Great value! That said, the contents are easy to read (clear font) with excellent illustrations and a friendly, encouraging tone. The reader is taken by the hand and introduced to the various sewing terminology, jargon and techniques so that by the end of the book, you will have become a competent sewist, ready to tackle most projects. It is not just for beginners in my opinion; it is an excellent reference book for those of us who need reminders of certain techniques that we may have forgotten quite how to do.

Teaches everything you need to know!
I would almost call this the only book you'd ever need, except I know myself and I know I will end up buying more books, perhaps more advance ones once I finish this.Honestly, if you are a beginner sewer, this *is* the only book you'll need for a good long while. It decomplicates the sewing process to the extent it feels doable even for someone without any experience at all. Teaches all the basics, not just the how, but also the why. Teaches everything from hand sewing to domestic sewing machines and even industrial sewing machines. Teaches pattern cutting, pattern making, so many things! It will get you from knowing nothing to cutting and sewing your first garment and probably beyond too.

Absolutely amazing. It is like there first book
Absolutely amazing . It is like there first book . Very well written , clear simple language and diagrams. It has all the essentials and more. They have done quite a good job i really dont know where to start. There are the usual topics but have shown how to do it the RIGHT way and have given more than one way to do it.I also learnt new ways to do things too. It is a practical book where you can actually do exercise and samples of each lesson . It really is GREAT. I would love to see them publish more books about different sewing topics which are not discussed much about like the inner structure and underpinnings used in couture and tailoring even haute couture embroidery. What an amazing innovative and motivated fashion company!
