Brilliant book, beautiful photography
My mom was living in assisted living when sent her this book; she missed her cat very much. She couldn't thank me enough. When she passed, that beautiful book disappeared. Truly a shame. I would have liked to kept it for my cat. 🙁

So cute! A must-read for cat lovers
This book is so cute and just what I needed to get back into reading after several intense weeks of focusing on my WIP. SHOP CATS OF NEW YORK is a photo heavy book of businesses in New York that have pet cats roaming the premises. The businesses range from cat cafes to cigar shops to, hilariously, dog grooming facilities. The book is divided up by shop. Every section gives the name of the cats and has pictures. In some sections, the authors were able to score interviews with the shop owners and we get in-depth interviews on how the cats came to the shop and even the stories behind their names and how they interact with clientele.I thought this book was really cute. People who aren't cat-lovers probably won't enjoy this, but if you do enjoy kitty-cats, this is going to be right up your alley.3.5 out of 5 stars

So much more than I expected!
I first started reading this book because I am a cat lover. I thought hey, what a fun way to see some cute and interesting cats, right? But then I realized it really is so much more.First, the photography is amazing. Marttila has an exceptional eye at capturing not just interesting photos of the cats, but of really seizing their personality. Whether sitting in the shop window, greeting customers, hanging out with its guardian, or “supervising” the shop, the essence of each cat or kitten is clearly conveyed through the way Marttila frames his subject. The photography really is stunning.Second, the copy is great. I have never been to New York City, so I was hopeful I’d learn a little more about the city (all I ever think of when I think of NYC is Seinfeld or Friends). The personalities of these shop cats are well portrayed, and their stories are at times heartfelt, funny, and humbling. But more than that, what Arslanian has done is portray the fine details of life in New York through these glimpses into the small shops and their resident cats. I feel like I’ve not only gotten to know these shop cats and their friends and guardians, but I now have a sense of what it would be like to be a resident of the city.Third, the production of the book itself is really quality. The pictures are crisp and clear, text is easy to read, the binding and covers are sturdy, the stock is thick and rich. I’m glad to have this book not just for my own reading, but to be able to display it in my home, or to share with friends and family. I’m looking forward to picking up a few extra copies to give as holiday gifts to my fellow cat lovers or lovers of New York!

Shop Cats of New York- a wonderful collection of stories that triggered a long lost memory
I has seen many posts about this book on Facebook, and ordered it from Amazon. Since it arrived, I've kept it beside my favorite chair, and have been rationing it for myself, as I don't want it to end. I only let myself read one story at a time every few days. The photos are wonderful, and the stories/tales/tails make me want to visit each store to meet the cat in person. By the second story I was reminded of a place I adored going as a child. It was a lumber store in Norwalk, CT- I think the name was Handyman Lumber. I wasn't particularly fond of lumber at the tender age of 5 or 6, but I LOVED all things cat, and this place had several. I remember going there with my folks, the smells of fresh cut lumber, the saw dust that stuck to my shoes and clothing, and sneaking away from my parents to go looking for one of the cats that called the store home. The cats weren't cuddly, but some were friendly. I recall their fur not being as soft as my cat's fur was, and they were always covered with sawdust. My mom or dad would say "we're leaving", but I always had to say goodbye to every cat I could find. That memory is almost 50 years old- I hadn't thought of that place or the cats for that entire time, until I cracked open this book. The stories and photos are wonderful, and and they brought back a wonderful memory to this crazy cat lady. Cats are my everything, and this book reminds me of the awesome way cats impact life in so many special ways. For anyone interested, it will be back in stock here on 12/20, and would make and awesome holiday gift for anyone who loves cats.

I Now Wish I Lived in New York
I Wish I Lived in New YorkIf you are an ailurophile, and you are if you know what that means, than I have a book for you. All cats have jobs but the ones in this book have real positions in New York stores and businesses. This book goes behind the scenes to reveal the photos and stories of felines who supurrvise their humans every day. It tells how they clawed their way to the top of the ladder and won hearts and minds in the dog-eat-dog world of the city. Meowvelous!

Love it!
Great to meet some of the shop cats of New York. Great book. Fun stories. Nice photos. I once worked in an office with two cats. One named O. C. (stood for Office Cat) and the other Buddy. They were the stars of the town square in the small town where the business was located. They had groupies who came by just to play and visit with them. I now work a a company where folks frequently bring their dogs to work. It's delightful to have pets at work. But when I leave I return home to my cat house where I'm greeted by my four awesome kitties - Eddie, Rusty Bolt, Darwin and Charlie. I'm always a Cat person in the end. :-) 😻

If You Love NYC and You Love Cats...
then this is the book for you. Slightly smaller than the huge coffee table type books, it is easy to hold. The pictures are good quality and the cat's stories are interesting. I bought this for a gift but always try to read a book before gifting it. I think my friend will like it. I may buy another copy since my son lived on NYC for 25 years and probably would know the shops featured. It's a very nice, good quality book

Perfect for the Crazy Cat Lady in your life!
Bought as a present for my mother in law who adores cats (as do I) she was pretty happy with it and I'm hoping to nab it for a read once she's read through. Of the couple of pages I read before wrapping there are some truly heartwarming stories about the adorable cats in NY and the lovely people who've taken them in!
