This is my third Draytek in 18 years. Draytek routers are robust and reliable. This one seems to be no exception. This generation is also suitable for upcoming FTTP (Fibe To Premises) which is due to be rolled out in my area. For normal ADSL the setup is easy - simply input your ISP ID and your password, There is one glitch that caught me out. After entering the ID and p/w the router reboots and a page opens stating "unable to connect". In fact the connection has been made. Ignore this page and open a second page on your PC and everything is fine. There is one other small issue. On the older routers when it was fixed to the wall the status indicator lights were visible. On this new model they are fitted to the same pannel as the cable ports. If you turn your router off at night when not in use, as I do, being unable to see the "on" indicator is a nuisance.

This is an upgrade for an existing router which failed when a plumber spilled water all over it in our loft. If you don't know DrayTek routers; these are one of the best security routers on the market. They have multiple WANs including the normal xDSL one which connects to normal BT type 'superfast' broadband but this adds the latest G.Fast technology too. You can also have a second WAN for fibre to the premises and yet another two WANs provided by USB cellular dongles. Internally the firewall and VPN configuration is easy, but in this latest version is enhanced. Also can do 2-factor authentication on the dial-in VPNs using a phone app in order to comply with insurers current demands for home workers' security.

routers came spent a few days installing and set up VPN . the had to revisit site few weeks later at my cost to update firmware . list money on job no compensation from draytek

Wan fail fails unfailingly... Had Draytek routers for well over 10 years in different versions in different offices for their easy VPN setup but now everything is on the cloud that is no longer important. The main reason now is dual wan to give continuity of service, if the cable (vMedia..often ..at least 6 times a year per office) fails then the ADSL connection SHOULD stay up. However this has never worked automatically and as a tech I am called in to unplug the cable modem... switch the router off and on which manually gets the ADSL to take over even though it has not failed, it just does not AUTOMATICALLY take over.Having tried all the different setup variations available in the software over several models, updates, over years etc...no good.NNowVPNis nolonger the kkiller reason...Will be trying a different make of dual wan router on the next upgrade...Probably in 22 if anyone has a suggestion... I have only used Draytek for so long ...no idea what else is out there?

I've been using Draytek routers for a number of years and have found them to be very reliable and feature-packed. They are a great solution for SMEs.

I bought this as a direct replacement/upgrade for a Draytek Vigor 2820n. Unfortunately, when we tried to connect it to our ADSL line (which is used for failover), it refused to connect. I tried multiple firmware versions and modem codes provided by Draytek support, but none of these worked. I know the ADSL line works, because the 2820n connects fine using the same line and settings. The logging and diagnostic information is non-existant, so we were unable to find out what the issue was, so I have returned the 2866ac for a refund, given that the router doesn't perform one of it's basic functions.Having also used the Vigor 2820n, I would also say that the user interface has not improved at all in the 2866ac and actually seems more sluggish, error prone and continually requires reboots when changing settings. So all in all, not a great experience despite being fairly happy with our 2820n.
