Very impressed!
I bought this book hoping to be able to use a few of the interventions as I do ALOT of girls' groups working as a therapist at a school. I have been able to use all of these interventions. They are realistic, do not require lots of extra purchases of materials to complete the activities, and have been very effective. I have made some minimal changes with some of the exercises, such as, the one based on fears and anxieties in order to work for males in the group. This is a very good book. It is concise, realistic, and still creative without a lot of jargon and unnecessary supplies. I have bought the other edition for younger children, which has also been a tremendous help with my groups.

An age appropriate book with a lot of choices for activities
A lot of good activities that are applicable to middle school girls! The activities are separated into sections, but most of them can stand on there own, in case you need to pick and choose based on the needs of your group. Categories include who am I?, body image, choices, communication, emotions, friendships, relationships (as in dating), self-esteem, stress, reaching out, and tough times. I really liked the section on stress! The friendship section seems to be more focused on how to be a good friend than how to make friends. Teaching out is about asking for help or support. The book also includes a certificate for the girls, a pre and post test, a survey for the end, and a CD.

A good resource for middle and high school counselors
I bought this book to utilize during small groups I ran during my internship. It's in a very flexible format and addresses issues that are clearly pertinent to girls In this age group. The activities and discussion kept the girls engaged and they even said they had fun ; but I wuodn't call this book light and fluffy either- it's a great balance of information and engaging activities to support their learning and growing.A few activities sometimes made me wonder ithough, like a "tea party" to practice manners and polite conversation. While I think my middle school groups would have liked the throw-back to and old game, I'm not sure how high school girls would feel about it.

I really like the content and activities that this book has
I couldn't decide whether to rate this book as 3 or 4 stars because it was solely on the content and my experience using this curriculum. I really like the content and activities that this book has, but I would not recommend it to start with when you begin to build trust with a group inside the schools. When initially going through the book, the content and activities of this book would most definitely reveal a lot about individuals during your social skills group sessions, which would be beneficial for the therapist or counselor, but I'm not so sure between classmates. However, I found myself not using this book at all after the first couple of lessons. The reason is that when I went through the first lesson with the girls, most of them did not want to reveal anything about themselves, which was understandable especially when they have not built trust with each other and with me. When I finished the end of the next lesson with them, I noticed that they seemed bored and resistant to the content. I found that I was able to get a lot more progress with building games and fun activities that went well with the topic (not using the book). My experience did not go well using this book, but may work well with others. However, I could see progress using this curriculum for school counselors who already built rapport with their students.

I could not love this book more
I could not love this book more. I run an 8th grade girls group and this book is spot on for issues girls face. The activities are meaningful and easy to present. I don't have a lot of time to plan activities for group and this book takes the work out of it for me. I simply pick a topic I want to discuss, and the book provides discussion questions and activities. LOVE THIS!!!! I wish there was a version for boys on specific issues they face.

Great for my girls’ group
I am a 7th grade school counselor and this has been really helpful in my girls’ group. The range of topics is great for middle school girls and has nice activities to go with each. I am enjoying using this as a resource to help young ladies increase their self-esteem!

Great girl book!!
I used this for a girls group at my school and it is a great activity book! Very big and lots of activities and printable sheets! It is in the pricier end, but I think it is worth it.

and would've liked to have seen the inside first knowing this now ...
This book is simply filled with group activities. It isn't what I expected, and would've liked to have seen the inside first knowing this now because that really wasn't what I thought it would be. Having said that - it might be EXACTLY what someone might be looking for!I am off during the summer months, so I haven't had the opportunity to use this yet. And I typically don't work with a group of girls, so I may never end up using this (which are part of why I gave it 2 stars). But there might be some colleagues who could find this useful. I typically like to program myself, but I know some people prefer to use ready made activities, in which case, may enjoy this resource.
