You will do nothing but READ FOR DAYS!!!! GREAT BOOK!
AMAZING! This book will take hold of your attention and will not let it go.>>>>NOTE<<<< This review assumes that the reader plays / played World of Warcraft and is familiar with the content of the Burning Crusade Expansion. In the Event the reader is new to the game or has not played before, This book will still act as a great intro to the game.First, if you are like me, then read about as fast as a herd of turtles charging through an ocean of peanut butter, but you still read. With that said, This book will take you and send you to another world, and then another, and then to an infinity of worlds! This book will bring a chill to the imagination, make the heart pump faster and send the blood coursing through your veins.Normally, a book of this thickness would take me a month to finish if I was dedicated to reading daily and a hour or more to finish a single chapter of the book (Chapter length on average is about 10 pages (5 pieces of paper front and back)). Such was not the case with this book. I finished this book in a week and completed around 4 chapters a day within about 90 minutes (about 12 minutes per chapter). This book is an easy and fast read, but this does not take away from its entertainment capabilities; however keep the dictionary app on your phone readily available.BOTTOM LINE:Very Well Written.Very Entertaining / Addicting.Character development is very well organized.Story line is very well organized and laid out to the reader.BUY IT NOW!

A must for WoW lovers and a great start of Legion
As a fan of World of Warcraft I was happy to get my hands on Illidan, and it is easy to see why this book is released now. This book does explain the first expansion The Burning Crusade but from more another perspective and it is the start of Legion, who soon will be released. The story itself is very interesting and is focused on Illidan and the fight to recapture The Betrayer. It was great to see Maiv and Akama and their part and vision on Illidan along side with himself and everything he has been working on. Sometimes on the other hand, I felt it was more about Maiv and not as much about Illidan, even if it was her crusade. This made me loose interest in the book and this parts is, according to me, not as necessary for the story as you may think. They really dont tell you anything and it is a lot of repetition about Maiv and how obsessed about Illidan she is and how she hates how everyone not want to help her. It is good to some part but it is to much for me in the book. The language and word use is sometimes a bit awkward and weird. It sometimes felt like the author didnt really know how to drive the story and use the language to drive it on its own.If you dont know anything about World of Warcraft and haven't played the game, then you shouldn't really read this book because it is really written for fans and fans who has knowledge from games and other books in the lore. This is not a good high fantasy book as it is and not the best in the books written with World of Warcraft in focus but I still enjoyed the book and the second part was much better even if there is plenty of loose thread that could have been better. If you like World or Warcraft and want some background reading before Legion, then this is a good book for you but to get the full story about Illidan you have to look at other books. This start with him being freed after ten thousand years in imprisonment and ends where Legion is about to start.Overall I enjoyed the book and I dont regret buying or reading it. it is a must for WoW lovers.

Not empty praise: a must-read for Warcraft fans
This is a review of William King's novel "Illidan: World of Warcraft".Relative to other Warcraft books, the writing is like Shakespeare, IMO. The story is told from the points of view of Maiev, Akama, a night elf Illidari student demon hunter named Vandel, and Illidan himself. The characterizations of Illidan and Maiev are very well-done. King paints them both as obsessive, rage-filled, egomaniacal jerks who will pay any price to obtain the outcome they desire -- near mirror images of each other, in fact. However neither of them are presented as being outright evil -- just very flawed. Also relative to other Warcraft books, it's explicitly gory and violent, but again IMO, that befits a book about Illidan. If a book about him were to be glossed over, it would feel silly. The sections depicting the training of the student Illidari demon hunters are especially graphic. Do not be eating your lunch while reading these parts. As far far as characterization of Illidan goes, I feel that he has been given a lot more depth -- something that this character always had the potential for given the right author to bring it out. While our old "ends justifies the means" power-seeking creep is still there (no doubt about that), he is portrayed as still possessing solid core morality deep down and the ability to feel empathy for other living things. He's willing to cast aside the rules of right and wrong as he needs to and he rationalizes it away as being for the greater good/the ends justifies the means, but there's still some genuine regret there.I'm not dinging a star for some very sloppy editing: misspelled words, incorrect timelines regarding things like Illidan's memory of Nordrassil (he shouldn't have had one) and Maiev's memory of Darnassus (she shouldn't have had one) -- basic stuff that should have been caught before going to press.I'm not that nitpicky although really, if Blizzard was proofing the book, someone should have caught the timeline stuff. Not that big deal in the end because it doesn't detract from the excellent story.I hope King is able to write more for Blizzard. I really enjoyed this.

Most amazing book I have ever read
I developed an empathy so deep with Illidan. It felt like its me who is talking. Illidan is one of the greatest stories I have ever read. The author is just as good a sourcerer as Illidan himself. Respect

Great read!
I chose the 5 star rating because the book had an amazing story that made me want to revisit outlands in game. The only thing I slightly disliked is that some of the parts involving maiev seemed to drag on at time but when you get towards the end of the book you realize how fleshed out the character really is.Definitely a great read and would recommend.

One of the best Warcraft books!
As far as I know, this is the first of William King's Warcraft novels. Having a bunch of different authors write books in a series can swing both ways, but King definitely did a great job! I like his style, his pacing, and he seems to have great grasp of the universe. The book feels very similar to Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christie Golden, which is by far the best Warcraft book.I'm happy a bit disappointed at how some side plots and side characters kind of just disappeared out of the story. Some things where revealed to have happened by the end of the book, but we never got to read about it. Then again, Illidan is the focal point.Another great book in the series, and one I'd highly recommend to any Warcraft and fantasy fan!
