Light of Mine - Dietz #30 Little Wizard Black Oil Lantern with 5/8" Replacement Wick Strips (Black)

Our neighborhood uses these lanterns during the Christmas Holidays. They are beautiful, easy to light, and give a nice appearance. Downfall. Since they are for outdoor use, there is some rust accumulating on the black parts of the lantern... and the burner part that hold the wick is VERY rusted... We wipe down excessive moisture from the weather and rain but after a month of use... there is rust on various spots at the welded areas of the lanterns and at the burners. We love our lanterns but they are all going to need some work before use next year.

I received the Dietz 30 from Cortes in excellent condition due to the great packing job they did. The small tank Little Wizard is a good compromise between size, fuel capacity, and light output. It is slightly smaller than it's 5/8 inch wick cousin, the Junior, and seems to me to burn a little brighter, as well as for longer (23 hours). Using a non-paraffin lamp oil, filled to 85%, there is very little odor after you let it burn outside for the first few hours. These 5/8 inch lanterns are significantly brighter than the generic 1/2 inch wick lanterns from the big box stores. Although they are less bright than the 7/8 inch models such as the Air Pilot (shown with the 30 in the photo for size comparison), they are also smaller for areas that need a more compact size. Another photo shows the sizes of various Dietz models and a generic lantern for comparison purposes. The Little Wizard is a good size, with a bright light, and burning capacity that meets most needs. Not too big, not too small, not too thirsty, and just bright enough for it's job.
