Rhino Shelf Universal Garage Storage Kit - 16 feet

The shelf is supporting the bike rack and 12 bikes plus whatever I can fit above. Pretty pricey given it’s just bolt up 1/8” angle. It’s strong and steady but not particularly clever or sleek. The finish is nice and the install instructions are clear. But for this price having to make a trip to Home Depot for 2X4s is annoying.

I was on the fence about ordering this due to the price, but I'm really glad I did. The instructions in the package are some of the best instructions I've ever read for a home improvement project. They were detailed, easy to read, well-written, and most importantly -- helped ensure a flawless installation.The material used on the shelves is top-notch, and clearly very high quality. I was a little unsure about this purchase due to the premium price, but it's absolutely a premium product. These shelves installed easily and look awesome in my workshop. 5/5 would buy again.

We moved to our home about 3 years ago and I decided that this winter (in Maine) we were going to actually use the garage for our CARS! I did lots of research on different kinds of garage storage. I decided to install these Rhino Shelves for the 24 foot long back wall. I liked that 1) the shelves suspend from the studs instead of the ceiling joists because the ceiling joists in my garage run parallel to the back wall, which would have put all the load of ceiling-suspended shelving on the same two joists; 2) stud spacing doesn't need to be 16" on center (our garage was intended to be 16" OC but the builders must have had apprentices on site that day because the studs are off by as much as 1 inch in some cases); 3) the shelves are 33" deep which allows storing the 27 gallon totes on their short end; and 4) the shelves can be installed as high as your ceiling accommodates - in my case our garage ceiling is 10' and we were able to hang the shelves 7 ft + above the garage floor which allowed room for a workbench, additional storage shelves and 4 wall-mounted adult bicycles, all under the Rhino shelves. Cutting the 2x4's is easy after the metal frame is up - just measure distance between hangers along the back wall and cut 5 identical pieces of 2x4 for that section. I recommend an extra person to help with screwing in the boards - a second pair of hands helps to hold the board & hanger in place while the other drills hole and screws the nail into the 2x4 from bottom of the hanger - this will require use of two ladders. I would definitely buy again if I ever moved to another house. My husband thinks this shelving is going to add to resale value of our house. I really like the uniform look of the storage bins sitting on top of airy 2x4's. BTW, we found the best deal on these black totes at Sam's Club.

These align to whatever your stud spacing is which is nice. They are definitely sturdy. I weigh 200lb. What I didn’t realize, for some reason, is you buy and cut the wood yourself. I’d say they’re a little expensive considering it’s just the brackets except for the fact that installation was easy and the metal is high quality including all the screws provided.

I bought a four-foot kit, which was $80 or $40 per bracket after taxes. Potential buyers note the last line of the description, which I missed, noting that the shelf material is not included in the price. Though the boards are shown in the photo, you are not getting the boards. Also included are lag screws. While these are manufactured professionally, and the finish is very nice, they are made of aluminum. I assume they will be sturdy enough, but you are getting very little in material and labor for the $80 purchase. I consider this purchase to be a significant rip-off.

On the plus side, the Rhino Shelve Hardware is well engineered. Assembly was easy. The instructions are somewhat overkill for anyone who has put up shelves before. But, OK. Once installed, the shelves look great and are very sturdy.On the minus side, they are a little pricey. But, I appreciate being able to select my own lumber to control the total cost. Finally, the kit would have been better if steel flat washers were included. The steel lag bolts dig into the wall brackets when tightened. They are probably secure enough, but I would always use washers in such applications to better spread out the load. Also, the tolerances on the center T brackets, used when connecting 4 ft sections, are a little tight. I had too drill one of the holes to get the second vertical machine bolt through both brackets. No big deal since the brackets are aluminum.

Product as described. Heavy duty shelves with very detailed instructions. Easy installation. Once metal brackets are up just purchase and cut 2x4’s for a very strong storage space. Excellent product.

This product comes well labeled and is very simple to install. Simple enough for one person, but with 2 it was done in less than 1 hour. I added pool noodles to the corners and the angle brace as it is low enough to do some real damage should someone hit their head on these. Those corners are NASTY sharp and this thing does NOT move! I would suggest to the MFR to at least round those corners if possible. Love this product.
