posting a review (i almost never do on Amazon, lol) simply because so many of the top reviews are negative. my experience: this mug was a gift from my wonderful girlfriend about a year ago (mid 2015) for my birthday and it's been a great mug. the other reviews refer to the letters wearing off -- this has NOT been my experience with the mug and i've washed the hell out of the mug. i've washed it by hand in my old apartment (no dishwasher) and dozens of times in my new apartment (hot steam automatic dishwasher). mug is still in great shape for me. maybe the older models of this product were manufactured differently and thus my newer mug is a fixed model?mug is great. if you're a supreme court nerd (we are out there, literally dozens of us) it's a great fun gift to receive. i love it. lots of cool cases on here that you'll remember from law school. A+

This is our second purchase of one of these cool Supreme Court Heat Changing Mugs! We gave one to a friend starting law school and she loves it. Now, we have another friend starting law school so we got another one...am sure she will love it, too! These really make a great gift for anyone in the legal profession! Also, the Seller is very nice and helpful in answering questions.

My daughter just got accepted into law school. She was so excited to receive this. She loves it. Only downside is that it is hand wash only.

Keep it out of the dishwasher.

This is an eye-catching gift for those with a penchant for history, law, and novelty items. It is not crafted as a fine piece of china; however, it is a delicate item. Be very careful and read the directions that come with the mug. You will see that it CANNOT BE WASHED IN THE DISHWASHER. If you do, the Supreme Court's decisions will literally wash away--forever. Rinse out the mug after using it to minimize the amount of washing and handling it requires. Use a soft sponge and a bit of soap to wash it. That's it. And it should last for a long time.I previously bought another 'disappearing' mug close to a year ago. It is still in good shape and draws amazed comments when someone sees it change for the first time.This is a wonderful gift for lawyers, history teachers, law students, para-legals, etc. It's also a terrific conversation starter for all of us.

Perfect gift for law teacher

I bought this for my favourite teacher, my AP US Government and Politics teacher, for Christmas. He is a history nerd like me and he loved it. We poured his coffee in it and popped it in the microwave in the Main Office for a couple minutes and the change effect was very clear and super cool for two geeks to witness. Any lawyer would recognize the cases on this mug as true "landmark" cases, important enough that they could probably tell you the holdings of them, along with a synopsis of the facts. But since prompting lawyers to start spouting holdings and fact patterns is unwise, you will want to direct their attention instead to the coolest feature of this mug: when you fill it with hot coffee it magically reveals which side won. Nice quality mug, study and well made, big enough for soup and crackers or cocoa with marshmallows. Probably not dishwasher safe, but mugs hand wash in a wink.
